• Pico do Arieiro - The highest accessible viewpoint on the island by car, standing at an altitude of 1818 meters or 6060 feet. Visitors spend 1 hour and 30 minutes here, exploring popular viewpoints like the Stairway to Heaven (Miradouro Pedra Rija) and Ninho da Manta. Departure from Pico do Arieiro is scheduled 30 minutes after sunset (the guide will provide the exact time upon arrival), so it’s advisable to plan the return to the car to ensure timely departure. It’s generally recommended to head directly to the viewpoints, such as the Stairway to Heaven, as the return journey from this spot can take 30 to 40 minutes, covering approximately 1.2 km.

Additionally, there is a Sunset tour available at Ponta do Pargo, the island’s westernmost point, especially if the weather at Pico do Arieiro is not favorable for sunset viewing on a particular day.

• Miradouro do Ninho da Manta - While at Pico do Arieiro for 1 hour and 30 minutes, this viewpoint is one of the optional spots to visit, included in the tour price.
• Miradouro Pedra Rija - Also known as the Stairway to Heaven. Visitors have the option to explore this viewpoint and enjoy stunning views. For those planning to visit, it’s recommended to wear good walking shoes and head there immediately upon arrival at Pico do Arieiro, as the return can take 30 minutes or more. Departure is 30 minutes after sunset (the guide will provide the exact time).

The PR1 walk is entirely OPTIONAL, and the fees listed in our excluded section are not mandatory. If you wish to explore the Stairway to Heaven (PR1), you can also discover many other free spots. Pre-registration is available on the government’s official Simplifica website.

• Please be in time back at the car as we leave 30 minutes after the sunset, any disregard of others or bad behaviour will not be tolerated
• The walking to Stairway to Heaven viewpoint is optional and Self guided so please be cautious and respect the appropriate trails and guidelines
• We recommend having a meal before the Tour as restaurants will be closed by the time we arrive to Pico do Arieiro
• This tour will take place rain or shine. If the weather/visibility conditions at the top are not good enough to explore the peaks ( torrential rain) we will change locations in order to try to get a view of the sunset. But we will always drive to pico do arieiro unless the road is closed or if there is a red alert for weather.
