  • Burnham Tavern - One of 21 buildings designated as most significant to the American Revolution, the Burnham Tavern will be very important in our story of the role Machias played in the early Revolution. The museum is not open during the tour, but the building is in a very viewable location.

Join us for a one-hour walking tour of the charming town of Machias, Maine. Nestled along the Machias River, this quaint coastal town boasts a rich history and played a significant role in the Revolutionary War. Stroll through the downtown area and discover numerous colonial buildings that have stood the test of time. The tour will highlight key moments in Maine’s history, including its pivotal role in the Revolution, as well as the impact of its central industries, fishing and forestry. This rural locale is brimming with hidden treasures! The tour route is mostly flat and will take you past the courthouse, Porter Library, and offer an up-close view of Bad Little Falls. Despite its rich history, this area often goes unrecognized. Our tours are typically very intimate, with an average group size of 2-4 people.
