Valley of the Kings - This morning, explore the West Bank of the Nile River and the Necropolis of Thebes, and see the Colossi of Memnon. Next, visit the architecturally stunning Temple of Hatshepsut, ancient Egypt’s first female pharaoh and one of its most successful rulers. Continue to the Valley of the Kings, the burial ground of the pharaohs and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For 500 years starting in the 16th century BC, tombs were built in this valley for pharaohs and nobles, including the tomb of Tutankhamun. Enter the tomb of Tutankhamun (extra ticket required) - discovered in 1922 by British archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter - to uncover the secrets of this famous chamber. This afternoon, cruise to Edfu.

CRUISING THE NILE | EDFU & KOM OMBO

Temple of Horus - Today, visit the Temple of Horus, the falcon-headed god of the sky. Built in 230 BC by Ptolemy III, this remarkably well-preserved and colorful structure offers insight into ancient Egyptian temple worship. Back on board, cruise to Kom Ombo. Disembark at Kom Ombo (Hill of Gold) to visit the Greco-Roman temple dedicated to Haroeris (the sun god) and Sobek (the crocodile god), whom some ancient Egyptians believed created the world. See the mummified remains of several crocodiles that once basked along the ancient Nile shore, just as their descendants do today. Back on board, cruise to Aswan.

ASWAN | MAJESTIC PHILAE

Temple of Philae - Take a motorized boat to Philae Temple on the island of Agilika. This sacred complex, dedicated to the goddess Isis, reflects a blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman civilizations. The temple was dismantled and meticulously reassembled when the Aswan High Dam was built. Visit the granite quarries and the site of the Unfinished Obelisk, which showcases the skills of Egypt’s stonemasons and is one-third taller than any other ancient Egyptian obelisk. Later, enjoy a felucca ride around the Aswan Islands, experiencing a refreshing Scenic Sundowner.

DISEMBARK IN ASWAN | OPTIONAL ABU SIMBEL

Aswan - Discover Abu Simbel (optional, 3.5 hours each way by road), home to the impressive twin temples of Ramses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari. The façade of Ramses II’s temple is dominated by four 70-foot-tall statues of the pharaoh. Even more remarkable, the entire site was relocated to save it from the floodwaters caused by the Aswan High Dam. Transfer to Aswan airport.
