- Valley of the Kings - Begin your journey at the Necropolis of Thebes, known as the Valley of the Kings, located on Luxor’s West Bank. This ancient burial ground is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Luxor. Here, you will explore four royal tombs, including those of Ramses, Horemheb, Merenptah, and the famous King Tut. Discovered almost intact in 1922 by Howard Carter, King Tutankhamen’s tomb is the only one of its kind in the Valley of the Kings. While Tut’s iconic golden mask is displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, you can marvel at the royal mummy of the young king here.
- Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - After the tombs, you’ll visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari. She was the only woman to rule Egypt as Pharaoh and was an ancestor of King Tutankhamen, belonging to the same dynasty.
- Colossi of Memnon - Next, see the Colossi of Memnon, the two largest ancient statues in Egypt, dating back to the reign of King Amenhotep III.
- Temple of Karnak - After lunch, continue your tour to the Karnak Temples on Luxor’s East Bank. Considered one of the world’s greatest architectural achievements, the Karnak complex features temples built over various reigns. Highlights include the Avenue of Sphinxes, the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 massive columns, the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis I, the Temple of Amon adorned with lotus and papyrus motifs, the Granite Scarab of Amenophis III, and the Sacred Lake. Karnak stands out as one of Egypt’s most stunning ancient monuments.
- Obelisk of Thutmoses I - See the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis I, and the Temple of Amon adorned with lotus and papyrus designs.
- Obelisk of Queen Hapshetsut - View the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis I, and the Temple of Amon adorned with lotus and papyrus designs.
- Tomb of Ramases IX - Visit the tomb of King Ramesses IX, the third pharaoh of the Twentieth Dynasty of the New Kingdom. Known as Amonhirkhopshef before his coronation, he was the fifth son of Ramesses III and became crown prince after his four elder brothers predeceased him. The tomb is rich in color and detail, even on the ceiling.
- Tomb of Merenptah - In Egyptian mythology, Ptah is the creator god of Memphis and the deity of craftsmen and architects. His falcon form was placed in tombs to protect the dead on their journey to the West of Luxor. Tomb 8 in the Valley of the Kings is the burial site of Pharaoh Merneptah, son of Ramesses II and Queen Isis-Nofret. Discovered by Howard Carter in 1903, the tomb features a significant reduction in lateral roots and an increase in corridor and room height. Merneptah abandoned the jogged axis used since Horemheb’s time, opting for a single-axis design with a wider entrance.
- Tomb of Ramses III - The tomb of Ramesses III, known as KV 11, is a complex system in the Valley of the Kings. Known since antiquity, its decorations include colorful sunken reliefs with traditional ritual texts and depictions of Ramses before the gods. Unique to this tomb are secular scenes in the side rooms of the entrance corridor, showing foreign tributes, detailed pottery from the Aegean, the royal armory, boats, and blind harpists, earning it the nickname ‘Tomb of the Harpers.’
- Temple of Amun - Also known as the Karnak Temples, this complex on Luxor’s East Bank is considered one of the world’s greatest architectural masterpieces.
