• Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Situated beneath towering cliffs near the west bank of the Nile, the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as Deir el Bahri, is dedicated to Amon-Ra, the sun god. Designed by the architect Senemut, the temple is unique for its classical architectural style. Note the long, colonnaded terraces, some reaching 97 ft high, pylons, courts, and hypostyle hall. Inside, discover the sun court, chapel, and sanctuary. Temple reliefs illustrate the divine birth of Hatshepsut and trade expeditions to the Land of Punt.

• Colossi of Memnon - On the way to the West Bank of Luxor, encounter the two colossal statues known as the Colossi of Memnon. These enormous figures of Amenhotep III originally stood in front of his Mortuary temple, which was destroyed for unknown reasons. Each colossus stands about 21 meters tall and depicts King Amenhotep III seated on his throne. Legend has it that after an earthquake damaged one in 27 BC, it emitted strange sounds in the morning, possibly due to the sun’s heat following the night’s humidity. However, restoration between 193-211 A.D. silenced the sound forever!
