Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walkway
Nyungwe Forest National Park - After an early breakfast, proceed to the Nyungwe National Park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. The briefing, led by Park Guides, begins at 6:00 am and covers the rules of tracking chimpanzees, park information, and what to expect. Following the briefing, the Park Guides will lead you into the forest to locate the chimps. Chimpanzee trekking differs from gorilla trekking as chimps tend to stay longer in the trees and are more vocal and dramatic. Their calls can be heard from a mile away, often before you see them. By the time you reach them, they will have already noticed your group. Tracking chimpanzees typically takes 3 to 5 hours, with one hour allocated for observation. Make the most of this time to capture as many photos as possible.
Nyungwe Canopy Walk - After spending an hour with the chimps, you will return to the park offices where the company driver guide will be waiting for you.
The driver guide will take you to your hotel for lunch and some rest. Later in the afternoon, the driver will transport you to the Uwinka Visitors Center for the Canopy Walkway and bird watching. The Canopy Walkway usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour, offering sights of small monkeys (mountain monkeys), butterflies, and more.
1:00 pm Conclude your trip and transfer back to Kigali.
We hope you have enjoyed your time in Nyungwe National Park. The driver will drop you off at the airport in Kigali or at your hotel.
