-
Atwater Village - The tour begins on tranquil residential streets heading towards the LA River.
-
Los Angeles River Bike Path - The tour stops at the “Red Car Bridge,” a car-free bridge named after the historic Red Car Trolleys that crossed the L.A. River here over 60 years ago. This new metal bridge, adorned with red stripes, is exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists. Participants will learn about the LA River, a vital water source in Los Angeles’ early history, essential for life in this dry region. Without it, LA would not exist.
-
Griffith Park - The tour visits the Griffith Park Ranger Station and the vintage Griffith Park Carousel, an iconic Merry-Go-Round built in 1926 with 68 intricately decorated wooden horses and an organ, where Walt Disney’s imagination first soared.
-
Old Los Angeles Zoo - Participants will cycle through the remnants of this former zoo (1912 - 1966), now a hidden hiking spot with old cages and caves that host Shakespeare in the Park.
-
Griffith Park - The tour heads to Cathy’s Corner, made famous by the movie LA LA Land with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s dance scene. This stop offers stunning views of the Valley, Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, the San Gabriel Mountains, Verdugo Hills, and Royce’s Canyon. The tour then stops at The Notch, overlooking Hollywood, WeHo (West Hollywood), Palos Verdes, Santa Monica, and Century City. On clear days, Catalina Island, the Pacific Ocean, and Santa Barbara are visible. The tour veers off to Del Valley Vista Drive towards Beehive Rock and other spectacular views of LA. A stop at Cedar Grove, a local micro-forest attracting Hollywood hikers, offers unexpected woodsy wildlife and sweeping city views from Glendale to Downtown, and Hollywood to the sea.
-
Griffith Park - The tour continues deeper into Griffith Park, which spans over 4,210 acres of natural chaparral-covered terrain and landscaped parkland with picnic areas, offering something for everyone.
-
Bee Rock - This is the most prominent geological outcrop and natural landmark in Griffith Park. Its highest elongated peak points east, overlooking the Old Zoo and towering over picnic areas and the Wilson-Harding Golf Course.
-
Los Feliz - The tour exits the park and meanders through quiet residential streets, admiring Spanish colonial homes.
-
Los Angeles River Bike Path - The tour returns to the LA River, stopping at the new La Kretz Crossing, also known as the North Atwater Bridge, a cable-stayed steel pedestrian bridge connecting Griffith Park with Atwater Village. A visit to a special Rose Gum tree, named by the LA Times as one of 10 beloved L.A. trees to cherish and protect, is included. This Rose Gum, from Australia, is related to the eucalyptuses but from an older lineage.
-
Atwater Village - The tour rides along the LA River, passing equestrian stables, to another smaller bridge at Sunnynook known as “Love Lock Bridge,” where visitors attach personalized padlocks to its railing, similar to its famous Parisian counterpart. Returning to Atwater Village’s quiet residential streets, the tour pays homage to a designated “national champion” - a massive avocado tree over 100 years old, the largest of its kind in the nation.
