A “must do” in LA!! Excellent experience for all ages. - Excellent museum. Really beat my expectations. Very interesting. Loved all the movie blurbs to go back in time to see. Really interesting to see how the movie business when from “lowbrow” to highbrow”. How the exodus of Jewish people from Europe was a wonderful opportunity for expansion in the west. Learned what a “bully” Thomas Edison was in wanting to keep all things movies to himself and his trust. Loved the creativity of the set designers. A wonderful exhibit. The costumes that were presented were iconic and fun to see. From Shirley Temple’s dress in The Colonel to Reece Witherspoon’s Legally Blond outfit! I’d highly recommend. We spent three hours but could have spent longer!

Excellent Corporate Outing – Engaging, and Well Organized - Our company had a fantastic experience at The Academy Museum for a recent team outing. The Color in Motion exhibit was vibrant and engaging — a creative way to explore the role of color in film history. Vinny did an outstanding job coordinating everything for our group. The planning was seamless, and the event ran smoothly from start to finish, which made it easy for our team to enjoy the experience. The tour guide was professional, knowledgeable, and kept everyone interested with great insights throughout the visit. This was a refreshing and memorable alternative to the typical corporate event. I’d highly recommend The Academy Museum for team-building or client outings.

Fabulous Museum - I've been dying to come here for ages and I'm so glad I finally did! My group loved it and it was everything we were hoping for. It was so cool to see so many movie props and costumes in the same place, way more than your typical film history museum would have. The exhibits are wonderful and it looks like they have plenty of room to grow in the future. Don't forget to go to the top for a great view of the Hollywood sign.

Glamor, movie making wizardry and Hollywood history - We stepped right into the art, history, technology and storytelling of movie making at this huge multi-gallery museum – a top 5 choice for LA visitors. Upon entry, you’ll want to take a seat to view the multiple screens and refresh your memory of all-time favorites from the earliest silent movies to most recent award winners. I particularly appreciated the gallery dedicated to the history of the Jewish founders of the eight major studios more than a century ago. The Spielberg Family gallery showcasing props and costumes from blockbuster action adventure sci-fi movies like “Spiderman” and “Star Wars” is a lot of fun. Check for screenings, usually at 7:30 p.m. weeknights and afternoons on weekends. You can easily spend half a day here – just beware of LA commute traffic when you plan your time.

Top notch museum - We spent 4 hours here & loved every moment. I highly recommend watching all the film packages in each section - most are in an alcove off to the side. They are a bit long, but so informative and well done. It makes all the exhibits even more meaningful. I’m so glad we planned to spend much of our day here. It’s now one of my favorite LA attractions. I would go again, as exhibitions rotate. A definite must for film fans.

Movies through the ages - What a fun museum with exhibits from the early days of movies to cyber modern film technology explained. I loved seeing the piano from CASABLANCA and Dorothy's red shoes from the Wizard of Oz. The PIXAR displays are great and a film montage of the history of the Oscars is really fantastic. This is an easy excellent museum and worth your time.

- Worth it for movie lovers!!! It's interesting to learn the origins of Hollywood, Oscar winners year by year, lots of memorabilia, Nice videos explaining different processes of movie making (I loved the sound/sound editing video!). They told us that the average visit was 90 minutes but it took us well over 2 hours to go through everything.

Interesting insights and views - This museum introduces you to the world of filmmaking. There are hands on experiments as well as interesting facts about the various possibilities of representation in the film. This is rounded off by historical information about the development of the film and the development of Hollywood. The Hands on Experiments were fun for 4 to 10 year olds. The view from the very beautiful rooftop cup of the museum is a good conclusion to the visit!

Disappointingly small, tourist trap? - It took me less than an hour to go through the entire museum and so it felt like I paid $25 for less than a movies worth of entertainment. I'd think Hollywood should have been able to provide more than that of all things if they were really trying. Basically felt like I'd get more value for my dollar going to Universal Studio and that the museum was a higher-brow tourist trap museum where you pay $20 and get to see a few knick knacks they've collected and exhibit items that they managed to convince a company, individual, or foundation to give them to display and didn't really put a lot of thought into it. Their cyberpunk exhibit was basically just two small rooms and a few props and disappointed me quite a bit. The only things to spend real time around were just some projectors playing clips; there wasn't really much content behind them. I'm used to going to museums like the Carlsberg Glyptoteket, the Oslo Nasjonalmuseet, Danish National Museum, the British Museum, London's WB studio tour (Harry Potter) and so on. All places you can spend 2-6 hours easily. Hollywood can do better. If this is all they can put on for their big museum when Harry Potter alone can keep me fully enthralled for six hours there's something wrong here.
