Cave extraordinaire - Škocjan caves is not the usual cave experience like the Postojna more common and mainstream stalagmites and stalactites caves. Škocjan is about deep narrow ravines with roar of rushing waters, about great heights between ravine rapids and ceiling of cave, about the cave ceiling looking like upside down snow forest or extraordinary scenery from another planet, about eerie darkness and evidence of the first explorer dangerous routes discovering the caves!

Wonderful trip a must do - Our guide Gorazd was extremely knowledgeable about his stunning home country. The caves are amazing ensure that you wear non slip shoes as the floor can be a little slippery in places. Be prepared to walk up and down stairs there not steep and you can go at your own pace so it’s not that bad and the caves are worth it. At the end of the caves you catch a lift to the top and the last 47 steps to the lift are the worse. All said it’s a must whilst here. Piran is a quaint little fishing village with a beautiful harbour the walk along the sea front to the lighthouse is lovely with plenty of bars and restaurants along the way. There is a beautiful big square where again it’s full of restaurants where you can also get a beer. We went on a weekend and the traffic getting out of piran was terrible as you have tourist aswell as locals going for the day so if you get the choice go on a weekday.

Piran is a hidden gem - Tomasco made this tour very interesting in his attentive manner narrating stories while driving our small group in the van to the caves and piran . I was anxious to go to Skocjan caves after having been to postojna caves several days before esp since they are a unesco site. I found the caves not to be nearly as interesting as the other cave with not as impressive stalagmites and staglatites. Pro… it has a river running underground but it is pretty far away to see all in the dark cave . We had a designated guide for about 35 people rather than just wandering in our own as the previous caves . Con.. tons of steps and the first exit was closed so even more steps. It was quite exhausting for this 60ish woman in good shape! Piran was a gem of a city . A Slovenian coastal town with a feel of Italy and close to Croatia so definitely a city of mixed identities! I would have like to spend more time than the allotted 2 hours in this little gem .

Great day trip! - Great tour. Wish I could recall our guide’s name as he was fantastic. The caves are amazing and the stop at Piran was interesting, although would love to had more time there for a longer, leisurely lunch. Not much for shopping.

Wonderful. - A beautiful place, halfway between the settings of the Lord of the Rings and the "King's Way". It is worth the one hour drive. It is not very crowded and the excursion is amazing. Tip: use the elevator at the end. They recommend walking up to see a waterfall but the waterfall is not worth the climb.

Visually and historically stunning. - The guide gave an exceptional history and geography lesson as we drove that gave the places we visited so much more colour if that were possible! As for the Škocjan caves and Piran, I need more storage on my phone… around every corner there was something to remember.
