Great starter to the City - The city of Ljubljana is one to see and experience. This is a great taster to give you a bearing of the city and then you can go explore further.

Great way to get to know Ljubljana - Great way to see and learn about the town! You get a tour of the most important places in the city centre and get to learn about the city’s and Slovenia’s history. You also get tips on good places to eat, drink and get ice cream!

Good stories about the city - We loved the story of the baker’s bath and the small, hidden courtyards throughout the city. The guide was great and happy to answer any questions.

Interesting city walking tour - Interesting tour with much insight into the past. If our guide would not have talked machine gun style I would have rated 5 points.

Martin, our guide was arrogant and rude - I arrived in Lublijana late for the tour; I was delayed at the border driving from Zagreb. I called the phone number on my ticket and they refused to help me until I politely said I would post a review on tripadvisor; then they helped me. The tour is run by the tourist office (book directly), and they were very helpful; they even found and walked me to my tour. I have significant personal knowledge of the former Yugoslavia as my grandparents emigrated from Croatia, my grandfather from Sosice (a tiny hamlet in the mountains where memorials at the badger cave not far from Sosice denote the place the partisans took revenge against Nazis and collaborators) —- my father’s first cousins were partisans and fought with Tito in the mountains. One was Tito’s foreign minister, the other Yugoslavia’s ambassador to the UN. I asked a detailed question, Martin snapped “were you not listening to a thing I said?” His description of Solvenia’s simple withdrawal from Yugoslavia, with Serbia’s acquiescence and no blood shed was insufficient to explain why, shortly thereafter, when Croatia initiated its withdrawal, Serbia bombed the heck out of Dubrovnik (theSerbs backed off when/because Germany stepped in to support Croatia) I do know the various conflicting explanations and wanted to hear the Slovenian view —- Martin treated me like an idiot although I am sure I know more of the history of Yugoslavia than he does. After asking another question, I stopped. Martin was arrogant, condescending and rude.

Experience of this tour depends on the guide - We've booked this tour based on multiple outstanding reviews and were very disappointed when our guide seemed like he didn't want to be on the same tour as his group. We have been on many city walking tours around Europe, many of which were free (Bucharest, Barcelona, Florence, etc) but never had such poor experience. Right from the start he made us feel unwelcome by picking up the phone and talking in Slovenian in front of us multiple times without any explanation. The guide skipped through centuries, historical locations, names, figures in such incoherent way that we never managed to build a story about this beautiful city and its historical development. And as if this wasn't enough, he took us to the Castle in the middle of the tour (so that we used the funicular ticket) and then made us come back to the city only to look at the market and two doors at the cathedral (which wasn't free to enter). Because he only shared a few basic facts about the castle our group wanted to stay and explore the castle on our own. However, when we'd stopped outside the cathedral doors, we heard another guide from the same tour provider, and she sounded very enthusiastic about Ljubljana's history and heritage. So I'm sure the tour would have been an entirely different experience if she took us around instead. So, I guess, in order to have a good guided tour try to check who your guide would be the day before you book it. Our tour took place at 10am on Weds, 10th July 2019.
