Highlights
  • Blue Hole Mineral Spring - Nestled in the serene community of Little Bay, this natural marvel will leave visitors yearning for more. The Blue Hole Mineral Spring is situated beneath a cavernous opening in Jamaica’s landscape, entirely surrounded by karst limestone. The naturally occurring minerals in the limestone act as an underground filter for a continuous upwelling of water, resulting in a luxuriously pure mineral bath for visitors to enjoy. Guests can also engage in activities such as hiking, swimming, cliff jumping, and there are separate pools for adults and children.

. Visitors can also opt for a local weed farm tour (Optional)
. The entry fee is $25 per person, which is not included in the price. Payment can be made in cash upon arrival.

  • Tryall Water Wheel - This 2,200-acre property was originally inhabited by the Tainos, the indigenous people of Jamaica. The Tainos typically settled near fresh water sources like rivers, making this location ideal. The Taino population was decimated in the 1500s by the Spanish, who arrived on the island in 1494. Jamaica was later captured by the British in 1655, leading to the construction of several forts to protect the coastline from reprisals. Fort Tryall, built during this period, still stands to the east of the property (not visible during this visit). The property was subsequently used as a sugar plantation powered by African slave labor. The Tryall Water Wheel, constructed in 1700, is powered by water from the Flint River, supplied via an aqueduct that carries water two miles from the hills. During the wet season, the wheel still turns, offering a unique sight for visitors.

  • Fort Charlotte - Located in Lucea, Hanover, Fort Charlotte was built in the mid-18th century by the British to defend the north-northwesterly section of the island. Constructed during the reign of King George III of England, it is named after his consort, Charlotte. The fort included a barrack capable of housing 50 men and had 23 embrasures for 23 guns, 20 of which were mounted.

During the Napoleonic Wars, it was deemed that the fort’s guns were insufficient to guard the harbor, so in 1807, three 24-pounders on traversing carriages were installed on the seaward side of the fort.

Built of rectangular cut stone, the fort has several openings facing the sea. Inside, the remains of the circular base for the rotation of guns can still be seen, allowing for firing from every possible angle. The Artillery Store, made of cut stone with buttresses and a gable-ended roof, still stands. A section of the fort now serves as a school.
