Two Different but Terrific Palaces - These are two terrific palaces to see. They are both well maintained and they don’t have nearly the crowd that Pena has. Two very different palaces, one somewhat austere and massive, the other mostly wooden and colorful with more intricate details. The grounds at Queluz were also worth seeing and provide great views of the palace facades. Our tour guide was terrific and walked us through both palaces. He even helped us pick up our Lisboa cards at the tourist office on the way back to our hotel. If you are interested in the architecture and interior design of Portuguese palaces, take this tour.

Beautiful palace and gardens - Wow, this is a stunning palace and gardens. It is about half way between Lisbon and Sintra. The palace is opulent and the gardens are beautiful.

Royal palace Queluz - break the train journey from Lisbon to Sintra - Everybody rides the train to Sintra from Lisbon and yes whilst Sintra is special break the train journey at Queluz - the Royal palace is a ten minute walk from the station. There are hardly any visitors compared to Sintra and yet it gives more. Well laid out rooms, an amazing ballroom and music room. The annotation of the artefacts far exceeds anything at Peña Palacio. The history of the royal family is well told. Gardens are beautiful with an canal lined with azulejos that royals had s barge on in the day! Visit, you won’t be disappointed

Lisbon's Versaille - Well worth the trouble to get there. Skip Sintra! This is better and not near as crowded. In fact there was probably only about 25 people in total there when we visited on a Saturday. If you are downtown Lisbon and have a Lisbon card go to the Rossio train station use your Lisbon card to board the train for Sintra and get off at Queluz Belas. If you're good to walk it's about 2 km from the station to the palace. Lisbon card holders can get a discount at the desk or you can buy from an automated machine. The machine will give you a discount for seniors over 65 if that applies. This place was as good as Versailles palace in Paris. Huge gardens. There is a cafeteria there but it was closed at the hours we were there.
