- Quinta da Regaleira - In the 19th century, Sintra was one of the first cradles of romantic architecture in Europe. Its unique climate and natural beauty attracted those who, inspired by the landscape, enhanced it with stunning architecture in a harmonious blend conducive to the appreciation of beauty and the sublime.
In this picturesque setting, on the outskirts of Sintra’s historic center, lies Quinta da Regaleira. Designed and constructed in the late 1800s, it reflects the cultural, philosophical, and scientific interests of its main owner, António Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920), alongside the skill of Italian architect and set designer Luigi Manini (1848-1936). The collaboration of these two creative minds resulted in an eclectic-revivalist architectural ensemble, with a particular emphasis on Manueline, Renaissance, medieval, and classical styles.

Boca do Inferno - Legend tells of a magical castle once near this location. A dreadful sorcerer lived there, desiring to marry the most beautiful young woman in the region. However, she repeatedly refused his advances. In an attempt to win her heart, the sorcerer imprisoned her in a tower, guarded by a knight. One day, driven by curiosity, the guard peeked into her cell and fell in love with her. She, too, seemed to fall for her watcher. Together, they planned to escape and live their love. However, the sorcerer soon discovered their plan and, using his dark magic, created a massive hole in the ground, into which the lovers fell. At that moment, their horse let out a loud screech, giving its name to a nearby beach - Praia do Guincho - where the final animalistic cry was heard.
