- Nazare - Nazaré is a village with a strong fishing tradition, home to one of the most iconic beaches in the central region of the country. The village as it is known today has only existed since the 18th century, as the lower area was previously covered by the sea. Only the Sítio existed, which now offers a magnificent view of the beach. What to visit in Nazaré?
All fishing villages have a Marian devotion, and Nazaré is no exception. From its religious monuments to its seaside avenue, visitors are invited to enjoy one of the most typical beaches in Central Portugal and its charms, breathing in the sea air.
Nazaré
Nazaré owes its name to a legend that claims an image from the Virgin’s homeland was found here. But more on that later.
The sea is crucial to the economy and culture of this community. In fact, the essence of this village is deeply connected to fishing, although today tourism is its main activity.
- Obidos - Óbidos is located in the heart of the western region. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, it is one of the most sought-after destinations in Central Portugal, and today we suggest everything you can visit in Óbidos.
Of Roman origin, the village of Óbidos derives from the Latin “oppidum,” meaning “fortified city.” Later occupied by Visigoth and Muslim peoples, it was reconquered by the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, in 1148. Its walls still bear traces of the ancient peoples who settled here, high on the hill, offering views of the Óbidos lagoon on one side and the Usseira Aqueduct on the other.
But Óbidos offers much more than monuments. There is a literary village to discover, full of color, excitement, and traditions.
