Highlights
  • Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima - Identity and mission of the Shrine of Fatima

The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima is a response to the call of Our Lady of the Rosary, first mentioned on August 13, 1917, and explicitly requested during the apparition on October 13, 1917, to Lucia de Jesus, Francisco Marto, and Jacinta Marto: «I want to tell you that a chapel is to be built here in my honor. I am the Lady of the Rosary» (First Memoir of Sister Lucia). The small chapel was built in 1919 at the site of the 1917 apparitions in Cova da Iria, and since then, the Shrine has developed in response to a significant influx of pilgrims.

The Shrine of Fatima is a pilgrimage site that commemorates its founding event, the apparitions of Our Lady to the three young shepherds. Providing pastoral hospitality to pilgrims is a key aspect of its mission.

The Shrine of Fatima preserves the memory and message of Fatima. Its mission is to study and disseminate this message, serving as a means of evangelization in Portugal and around the world.

By the express will of the Apostolic See, the Shrine of Fatima is designated as a National Shrine.

  • Forte de Sao Miguel - The construction of this Mannerist-style monument began during the reign of D. Sebastião in 1577, with the aim of defending the cove from attacks by Algerian, Moroccan, Dutch, and Norman pirates who targeted the Atlantic coast. In 1644, due to its strategic position, King D. João IV, the Restorer, ordered its remodeling and expansion. As the vigilant guardian of the fortress, S. Miguel Archangel, the patron of many sanctuaries typically built in elevated locations, was chosen. On the fort’s façade, at the entrance portal, D. João IV placed a limestone image of San Miguel Arcanjo, with the inscription “ELREY DOM JUAN-1644,” marking the year of its construction.
  • Obidos Village - The medieval village of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well-preserved in Portugal.

Close to the capital and situated on a high point near the Atlantic coast, Óbidos held strategic importance in the region. Already inhabited before the Romans arrived in the Iberian Peninsula, the village gained prosperity when it was chosen by the royal family. Since King D. Dinis gifted it to his wife D. Isabel in the 13th century, it belonged to the House of the Queens, who, over various dynasties, benefited and enriched it. This is one of the main reasons for the numerous churches found in this small town.

Within its walls, you will find a well-preserved castle and a maze of streets and white houses that captivate anyone who visits. Among Manueline porticoes, flower-adorned windows, and small openings, there are many reasons to visit, including excellent examples of the village’s golden age religious and civil architecture.

Very good experience - I recently went on a tour Fatima Obidos and Nazare Tours in Portugal and had an amazing experience. Our guide Marco was knowledgeable and passionate, and the tour was well-organized. Highlights included visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, exploring the medieval town of Obidos, and enjoying the coastal town of Nazare. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to explore these beautiful towns in Portugal. Thank you for a memorable experience!

If there are stars for restaurants the lanetours deserves a star for the organization, simplicity and sympathy of the whole staff - What I can say when the guide Mr. Antonio Santos gives us much more than the 3 secrets of Fatima. A Mr who is a well of wisdom about the history of Portugal and who for me who am Portuguese I learned unimaginable things Thank you Lanetours Thank you António

Great tour on your own - Enjoyed my trip. It's not a guided tour though so if you're looking for information to be extended to you this won't happen. Great that he was bilingual as we had a couple that didn't speak English. He was very good about making sure to do anything he said in both languages so everyone was at the same level. He translated conversations as well so that we could all get along. Would have liked more time in Obidos though as it was gorgeous and a lot to do there. And hour isn't enough for sure but to get a taste to come back it was fine.

Tour of Fatima, Battle, Nazareth and Obidos - The tour didn't start very well since I booked in Portuguese, but most of the bus spoke only English, so my mom and I felt very displaced. The guide tried to ease the situation, but the company should organize to group people who speak the same language on each tour for better enjoyment. After the stop in Fatima, due to the crowded bus, my mother and I ended up being transferred to a van that had only another person, driven by Marco, our new guide. The experience changed completely, he explained to us in detail each part of the sights in Portuguese, it was excellent! Also gave us great tips for the rest of our stay in Lisbon! In fact, I do not give five stars for the lack of organization of the company itself, which left to be desired in many respects, although the guides are excellent.

Tour of Fatima, Nazareth and Óbidos - We took the tour with the Lanetours on Sunday, 07/07/24. We were put on a bus that the air was not working well and in the first minutes already made a problem, we had to stop and wait for a solution, which delayed the route. I don't know if the guide wasn't on a good day or if it was his normal, but it was extremely impatient and thick. If we were asking something, or we hadn't paid attention or he was still going to explain. We had no right not to understand an explanation or to have doubts about the matter. The places are beautiful but to do all three tours in one day is only very tired and running, besides not indicate the company due to lack of professionalism of the guide.

Stick to the schedule - This one started off wrong. Not clear where to meet and no contact info of the tour guide. Then there was one person who wanted to change the program to attend mass. And this changed the times for the rest of the trip although I asked if it would and I was told it would not but it did. Do not adjust the tour for anyone. Stick to the schedule and keep it moving. The next site we were not able to enjoy the waves and eat lunch and shop. Only have an hour and it took 30 min to go peek at the waves and get back up to eat which took another 40 min. Got back late after eating quickly and no time for shopping. Just stick to the schedule and allow the same amount of time of 90 min at all locations otherwise you miss out of you are not catholic on the other sites which are more interesting

Tour is a theft - Don't waste your money. It is not a Guided tour. First, it was supposed to be in spanish and guide spoke in english (fortunately we speak english) then he didn't do any guiding tour. He said 3 phrases about Fatima and that was all but he was very interested in us buying things in a store where all was expensive and he surely gets a commission and in a restaurant where they took 1 hour to serve a dish. No guide at all in Fatima, Nazare and Obidos. It was only transport. You can do transport less expensive with bus or train
