Great adventures in Tortuguero - We loved the early morning canoe tour and the turtle night walk. We could observe a lot of animals. Our two guides Jorge and Jose were very nice, knowledgeable and took the time to show us the wildlife. We also appreciated the equipment; boots, rain poncho and binoculars that were lent to us. We definitely recommend going with Tortuguero Adventures.

Boat ride and turtles - With a group of friends we took the boat ride in the morning and the night tour to see the turtles. Both experiences were amazing, we saw lots of animals (birds, parrots, caimans, monkeys, sloths...) and the setting is beautiful. Our Guide for these two tours, Andrés, was great. We learned a lot from him and he was very welcoming, like the rest of the team. I will keep great memories of Tortugero, I recommend!

Total Tortuguero - We did the Tortuguero all in one tour. We saw amazing animals on the canoe and walking tour through the jungle. Celimo, our guide, was so knowledgeable and passionate about animal conservation. An incredible guide all around. And the highlight was the turtle nesting. Clearly a company that takes nature and animal preservation seriously. Highly recommended!!

The place to be in Tortuguero - Really the place to be in Tortuguero thanks to the kindness of Emmanuel and the help of Jordan who can drive you around by canoe only by hands ! He gave us good indications to go to eat and to prepare the way back to La Pavona ! We spent very nice time in Tortuguero. Thank you

Great tours and guide! - We have done 3 tours here and all of them were very well organized and executed. We did the kampen tours, day walk and night walk. Fabien was our guide on all 3 and was one of the most knowledgeable and passionate guys we have seen in our trip regarding the nature and wildlife. He knows almost all the animals and species and if he encounters anything unknown he will find out, explanations done in fluent English. Rubber boots, flashlights and other equipment is provided and of good quality. The price is fair and a bit cheaper compared to some of the other places we checked.

The best vacation experience ever! - We had an amazing experience in Tortuguero and we have Tortuguero Adventures to thank. We stayed in their guest quarters and did 4 tours over 3 days with our 7 year old son. It was an experience of a lifetime and the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Our son will surely remember it for the rest of his life. I actually enjoyed the fact that the staff was easy going and just verbally told us what time to meet. They even arranged for us to have private breakfasts on our balcony that overlooked the river every morning. It was such a nice addition. The staff, Isacc and Jenni were great and we felt very well taken care of. Tourism is finally returning little bu little and life has no doubt been hard for the people on this island who depend 100% on tourism to make a living. My recommendation is to be kind, smile and tip them as often as possible. If it’s not perfect, try to have an open mind. This is one of the most unique places on earth. Just getting there is an adventure. We rented a car and parked it at La Pavona and took the public boat taxi an hour through the river channels to get to the village which drops you right on their doc. Bring cash as there is no bank and most vendors prefer cash. We did the night walk with Elvis as our guide and even though it poured rain and we didn’t see a TON of wildlife that night, we had a blast and our son loved it. The next day we did a canoe tour with Elvis and saw so many interesting animals. Isaac took us into the National Park as well and we saw lots of animals and learned the history of conservation on this island. We ended our adventure with a turtle nesting tour which was truly an adventure. They also arranged for a private fishing boat to take us out and we loved seeing the river and the ocean converge in the area where we fished. What a great stay! Although there seem to be some fancy resorts in the area, we would not have changed a thing and would come back in a heart beat to stay here again.

Disorganized and Dangerous Mess of a Company - My wonderful vacation from Drake Bay to La Fortuna was wonderful (as detailed by my previous 5 star reviews of other companies), but it quickly turned terrifying, dangerous, and into a disorganized mess of a vacation once this tour company came into the picture. The transfer between La Fortuna and Tortuguero was organized and booked by this Tortuguero Adventures. When switching from the first shuttle bus to the second, I was left stranded by the second bus because my name was left off the transfer manifest even though I prepaid for my entire transfer in advance. So, one of the other drivers had drive wrecklessly like a madman for 20 minutes to catch up with the shuttle van. The weather was bad and wrecked cars were littered on the side of the road. It was something out of fast and furious movie and he chatted on the phone the whole time. This is the most scared I've ever been while on vacation. I already have to worry about COVID. I don't want to have to worry about dying in a car accident while overseas in addition. Once I got to the tour office I could tell this was going to be a mess. There were no set times or itinerary for the tours even though I paid for an entire package. Communication was horrible. I had to constantly reach out on whatsapp to figure when and where I needed to arrive for a tour instead of the other way around. Everything seemed to be done verbally and just as a make it up as you go, fly by the seat of your pants situation. If you stay in there cabins, and you have an emergency. You can just forget about it. You're on your own. There is little to no communication with clients after the office closes. They don't give you an emergency number to reach them or anything. So, you better pray that you don't end up having anything poisonous crawl into your room or bed in the middle of the night. You better hope you survive until the office opens. The whole operation is a lazy one and I'm trying to figure out how they're ranked first on trip advisor. On the canoe tour, the tour guide was talking in such a low volume it was as if he was talking to himself. I could hardly hear anything he was saying about the plants and animals. The other tour operators were going to the edge of the river and into hard to reach places to get as close to the animals as possible. While our operator just lazily stayed mostly towards the middle of the river where you almost always had to us binoculars to see the animals. On the nature park tour, the operator had only been speaking English for about six months so he was so difficult to understand that the tour ended up being just a waste of money. That's when I was shocked to find out that even though the tour guide was wearing a Tortuguero Adventures shirt, he knew nothing about the company and was in fact a subcontractor independent guide. So, the quality control and vetting of their guides isn't there since they don't use their in house guides. In other words, it's a crap shoot as to whether you get a good guide or not. Finally, the last situation is when I finally decided to write this negative review. I was told that the Turtle nesting tour started at 10pm. I was never told that the departure time of the tour was 30 minutes early. I showed up at 9:50pm and the office was pitch black with no one there. They completely left me! Even though they have my contact info, they not even once tried to reach out to me to see if I'm running late or whether there was a misunderstanding. When I complained, they tried to blame it on me stating that they mentioned the meet-up time verbally. Keep in mind that I stayed in their cabins which is a 30 second walk from the office meet up point. No courtesy was given. Keep in mind that there was no official conversation or meeting about meet up time and what was expected. Again, the onus was on me to get all the details. If the specific timetable was mentioned, which I don't believe it was, it was mentioned casually in passing. The owner lied and said that I was sent a whatsapp with the meet up time, which is a lie, and the front desk lady said that they waited on my until 10pm, which is also a lie because I showed up at 9:50. I lost a once in a lifetime opportunity to have an amazing experience in tortuguero because of the incompetence of this company. I went all the way to the land of turtles and didn't get to see one turtle. Please don't risk your health, happiness, and life opportunities using a company that clearly doesn't care about its customers. I would have paid double to do it all over again with another company. Thanks for ruining what was a beautiful vacation. P.S. - - I accidentally emailed the wrong tour company, "Tortuguero Tours", at 11:30pm that night to ask and complain about the Turtle tour. Within, 4 minutes they responded and apologized and pointed out that I emailed the wrong company. I was impressed at how quickly they responded after hours to my concerns. I would highly recommend that people use them for tours instead.
