Embrace the Green: A St. Patrick’s Day Adventure in Limon
St. Patrick’s Day in Limon, Costa Rica, is not your typical Irish celebration. Here, the green is not just in the shamrocks but in the lush landscapes and vibrant wildlife that surround you. As the sun rises on March 15th, the weather is perfect for a day of exploration, with temperatures ranging from a comfortable 74.2°F to 81.8°F. The day begins with clear skies, making it ideal for morning adventures.
Start your day with a Kayaking Adventure through the Gandoca Lagoon. Available from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, this tour immerses you in the heart of the Caribbean forest. Paddle through the only mangrove forest on Costa Rica’s Caribbean side, where you might spot spider monkeys, sloths, and caimans. The tour includes snacks and a lifejacket, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. One recent review from September 2024 highlights the beauty and educational value of the tour:
Beautiful experience with a lot of learning - I took two tours with Ariel, a night walk in Gandoca Wildlife Refuge and a kayak excursion on Gandoca lagoon to Gandoca beach. Both were excellency and very interesting. Ariel is a passionate and informed guide, I learned a lot of things during the tours about the region, its history, banana trees, animals, etc. The night walk included a dinner in Colibrí Lodge, while the tour to the Lagoon included a pipa directly from a tree and a healthy “snack” of several fruits. A beautiful experience. Thank you, Ariel! (Reviewed at: 2024-09-21)
As the afternoon clouds roll in, take a break and enjoy the local cuisine. The humidity might make it feel warmer, but a refreshing breeze and a slight chance of rain keep the atmosphere lively and unpredictable.

A scenic boat tour along the Tortuguero Canal offers more wildlife sightings, and a cultural drive around Limon City introduces you to the local history and traditions.
A review from February 2025 captures the essence of this tour:
Costa Rica had some interesting wild life experiences - Getting to our tour guide was off to a rough start. Greenway Nature Day Tours showed that our tour was cancelled yet i had tickets and had paid almost $2K for the tour. From the start the person i communicated with was not interested in our tour because we wanted to stop at the Sloth Sanctuary on our tour. He finally agreed and then we show up and it showed we were cancelled. Unhappy and we wasted time trying to deal with this situation. Natalie, who it looked like was controlling the tours, stepped in an gave her assistance and arranged for the tour to happen. Without her, i feel l confident we would not have had a tour.
