Noteworthy are the Pachacamac idol and a cloth door adorned with Spondylus shells, both unearthed during Alberto Giesecke’s excavations at the Temple Pintado.
The museum also features a remarkable collection of sculptural ceramic offerings from the Wari period (700-1100 BC), highlighting depictions of fish, figures, and plants. Additionally, it houses a series of Inca quipus from a location near the Palace of Taurichumpi.
The museum is thematically arranged to present the complete cultural timeline of the Pachacamac Sanctuary, spanning from the 2nd century BC to the Inca establishment in 1470.
- Barranco - Barranco is undoubtedly one of the most charming neighborhoods in the Peruvian capital. Its streets, lined with grand houses, bars, restaurants, and a bohemian vibe, create a bridge between Lima’s past and present.
Key attractions in this picturesque neighborhood include the municipal square and its church, along with various museums and the Temple of the Hermitage.
- Centro Historico de Lima - Situated in the Lima Metropolitan district, it was founded in 1535 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro and earned the title “City of Kings” due to its significant role as the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru from the mid-sixteenth century to 1821. The Historic Center of Lima still showcases the finest examples of Spanish monumental architecture. Its most significant historical public monuments include numerous churches, convents, and mansions that uphold the Hispano-American Baroque tradition.
- Museo Convento San Francisco y Catacumbas - This collection of religious buildings, featuring neoclassical and baroque styles, was constructed in 1546. In the 17th century, the temple underwent various modifications and decorations, transforming it into a viceregal art marvel.
In 1655, an earthquake in Lima demolished the Franciscan temple, destroying its artistic treasures and undoing a century’s worth of effort.
The new temple was inaugurated in 1672, with repairs continuing inside the convent until 1729.
Today, the convent offers attractions, including its remarkable courtyards and gardens, surrounded by arches with Seville tile baseboards.
- Magic Water Circuit of the Reserve Park - Originally opened in 1929 to honor the civilian reservists who defended Lima during the War of the Pacific, the Parque de la Reserva has become one of Lima’s most popular tourist destinations over 65 years later.
In 2007, the Circuito Magico del Agua, or The Magic Water Circuit, was introduced. It holds the Guinness World Record for the largest fountain complex globally, featuring 13 unique fountains, many of which are interactive. All fountains are illuminated at night, with many showcasing ever-changing color schemes. A vibrant laser light show synchronized with classical and Peruvian music makes the fountains dazzle and shine as the water flows in intricate patterns and shapes.
