Excellent half-day, solo guided walking tour of Leiden (birthplace of Rembrandt); short train-ride from Amsterdam - A visit to Leiden, a city dating to the Middle Ages, is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in Dutch Golden-Age art (Rembrandt and Jan Lievens, a contemporary, were born here) or history of the Low-Countries during Sixteenth-Seventeenth Centuries (e.g., Eighty Years’ War of a nascent Dutch Republic against Hapsburg Spain). The eponymous university is the oldest in the (current) Netherlands. Guide (Mr. Jip) for this solo walking-tour was excellent, with impressive knowledge-base for period noted (Low-Countries, 16-17th Centuries) and history in general. The town itself is picturesque (situated along branch of the Rhine), including university area (apparently in-session during my visit; very nice local eatery serving good coffee and excellent, Dutch-style apple pie) and periphery (holds largely-intact Medieval defensive structure). Short train-ride from Amsterdam. Strongly recommended.

Leiden; Wirth the Visit - We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Leiden. It was a most welcomed change from Amsterdam. Our guide Julia was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and personable and made it a fabulous experience. She tailored it to our interests.

Casual Leiden walk - We had a nice walk through Leiden with Julia, who showed us unique spots and told us interesting stories. We did not feel rushed at all and Julia was flexible with the route and places we may want to stop. Julia was a newer guide and there were a couple of questions she could not answer, but overall we enjoyed our time and the tour.
