With two decades of experience rooted in Vidigal, Russo Guia spent 17 years operating a local business and has been a guide for over two years now. With him, you get a unique perspective only a local can offer, while also contributing to appreciating local culture.
Equipped with training from the National Institute of Human Development, he’s well qualified to be your guide. In fact, he’s currently taking another tour guide course with Protur. Russo Guia is well-known and integrated within the Vidigal community.
Itinerary:
- Sitiê Ecological Park, which was once a landfill, but is now a venue for environmental education and agriculture!
- The Vidigal Olympic Village and its above-ground graffiti court!
- Arvrão: the spot boasting the best panoramic view and popular bars such as Bar da Laje, Mirante do Arvrão, and Alto Vidigal
- Pope’s Chapel: visited by Pope John Paul II in 1980!
- Arts shortcut: a graffiti wall featuring work by local artist @ tarm1 on Instagram and other artists from around the world!

Vidigal favela tour - Russo is amazing, super friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. He took his time to explain the history and took amazing videos and pictures for us to remember. Highly recommend!

TOP TOUR IN VIDIGAL - The best experience and best way to get to know the culture and streets of Vidigal. Russo was an exceptional and very attentive Guide, who guided us making us feel part of the community. I highly recommend it for those who want to meet someone local and know the story in depth.

Incredible experience in the favela - I recommend 100% taking the tour with Russo, he is a very friendly, local person, and gives you the unique experience of knowing the favela in depth while telling you the story. We were 3 women and felt very comfortable and safe. Russo is very attentive and everyone knows him, it was really worth it. A super plus: take amazing photos and videos. Thanks for everything Russo!!!

Excellent Tour and Excellent Guide. - Russo, our Guide, was spectacular!! He guided us safely throughout the area, as he told us many stories Vidigal faith. We made stops in several places. He is a very kind person and very patient. 100% recommended

Great tour with root guide - Russian made a great tour presenting the community, is known to all, I went only with a friend and we felt super safe! It also makes lots of quality photos and videos from both our phone and his, and then it sends everything in high resolution.
I loved to know the history and peculiarities of Vidigal, all explained by who was born and always lived there.
I recommend!

Safe, fun, & thoughtful tour - Russo is hands down the person you want to explore Vidigal with. He knows every third person in the favela, made us feel safe, and takes the most instagrammable photos. He will also go out of his way to show you shortcuts & hidden gems. Unconditionally recommend.

Unexpected and wow experience - Unexpectedly and it was way better than unexpected. The tour itself can give you the unglamorous site of Rio. But everything was good and still way better than I thought. Our guide was friendly and good in taking pictures and knowing the spot. He is really very well known in the neighborhood. He also takes care of everyone to make sure everyone is together in the group and safe. Also reminded us where it is not safe to take pictures and so on. Overall it was a good experience this tour.

Excellent tour with local guide - Great tour, really a great experience with someone who knows the place. The Russian guide is a always attentive person, showing every detail and telling his story and the history of the favela.
Whoever is looking for a tour with information, relaxed and an unparalleled Russian atmosphere is the right guy.

This will be only in Portuguese! - It’s a cool tour, except I requested in Spanish. Our guide spoke neither Spanish or English. He knew some words and responded good in Portuguese to Spanish questions. It’s a good way to see a favela if you’re scared or cautious of doing it on your own.
