Highlights
  • Jungfraujoch - The trip is unguided, you may just board the train. You find the location/GPS of the departure station on Google and on the Jungfrau Railways website.

Jungfraujoch Top of Europe is the best place in Europe to discover a world of snow and ice. The cogwheel railway travels to Europe’s highest railway station every day of the year.

The view and adventure platform at 3454 meters above sea level unites in a place that fascinates people of the Alps: a majestic backdrop of ice, snow and rock with breathtaking far-sightedness.

Once at the top, Icy air streams across your face, snow crunches under your feet, and the view nearly takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Mittelland up to the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch glacier, bordered by four thousand meter peaks. There are also great shops, restaurants and the Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven.

The Jungfrau-Aletsch Region was chosen as the first Alpine UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2001.

Great experience, very helpful and friendly staff! - We had a great time in Wengen, and really enjoyed our trip thanks to the staff, who was so helpful. As we took the wrong train they guided us to get back to the departure station late at night.

Worth it - Corona time... no tourists... maybe it was the right time to do this quintessential Swiss tourism excursion? We did it and were certainly not disappointed. The view is just exceptional and worth the trip in itself. Other top attractions were less interesting for us but actually not that bad. The trip is fantastic (although the last part being in a tunnel is more of a technological challenge than a memorable experience!) Price is high but justified given the (perfect) infrastructure and the location (Note that half tax Swiss train passes are valid). Certainly something to do although we would hesitate to choose a date when thousands of tourists are also present... Corona might have good sides!

Beautiful but touristy - 25% with eurail discount- 158 CHF pp. Sphinx observatory had breathtaking views but was freezing so remember to dress warmly ( including good shoes and touchscreen gloves). Ice palace was pretty cute but small. Unfortunately had to descend early as we all got altitude sickness. Jungfraubahn was a little disappointing as it is mostly tunnels with no view ( except a brief 5 min stop) and but the eiger express was definitely beautiful ( views coming down in the pm but mainly fog going up in the am). The place was pretty crowded and touristy, note food was quite pricey so pack your own. Alternatives that i was not aware of was the matterhorn gacier paradise which apparently is higher ( but i didn't go so i cannot comment) so do your reserach

Poor weather spoilt the view but not the experience - Firstly travelling to Grindelwald. We had bought train tickets but frankly the journey would have been long by train from where we were staying. Dont worry about parking , there is a huge multistorey car park at the cable car (unless high season) and it was only Euros 12 for the day. Cable car. Because we had bought the SFF travel tickets, the cable car and train to the top was discounted by 25%. They don’t need the passport ports to purchase the tickets but an inspector will need to verify them when on the journey up the mountain. Big spacious cable cars, easy to step on and off etc. Train to the top Groups seem to take priority, and even though you have a ticket, they recommend another 10 Swish Francs to reserve a seat to the very top (or queue in line and wait your turn). At the top, Plenty to do, lots of ice sculptures, look out places, shops and restaurants however the visibility was 2 metres, no joke, minus 6 at the top, snowing and blizzard winds made for a memorable stomp in the snow but could hardly see the phone to take a selfie! Summary Expensive if you don’t get to see the view at the top but can’t wait to return.

Nice views but crowded and expensive - The mountains and the view from the trains as well as from the top are breathtaking. However, the train ticket is very expensive and the place is crowded.

Tourist trap - Big disappointment. The Jubgfrauchjoch is a windowless tunnel with tourishop, that must be clear to everyone who goes up there for a lot of money. Terrace closed- this could have been informed already on the train, instead advertising is running. In addition, so many people were admitted that one could not move freely. You're just happy when you get through it.

Terrible experience for $270 - Absolutely terrible experience with no cancellation or refund due to bad weather. You would expect a partial discount at the least. I went to the top and couldn't see anything. The visibility was 30m. They should have cancelled the tour for the day. Terrible company out for a fat profit with no regard for people.

Worst experience ever for this level of out of pocket - Worst experience ever made from the (highly unfriendly) at Grindelwald Terminal up to Eigergletscher/Jungfrau. Waiting at Eigergletscher for hours- no management of the waiting crowd, no information at all. Real pitty to experience this for such a high investment for a family.

Terrible queuing at top of Eigergletscher - Be aware that the train trip is done in stages and that at each stage you have to get off one train and onto another. Normally, this is not a problem as the trains have the same capacity. However, at the last stage, there are TWO ways to get to there; one via the train up from Kleine Scheidigg and the other via the new cable car, the Eigergletscher Express. This means there can be more people arriving than there are seats on the train to the top. If this happens, you will have a very long, crowded wait at the station at the top to get on a train to the top. There is no crowd control, no queuing system and no social distancing. It is just a rugby scrum free-for-all. It would be bad enough in normal times, but in covid-times, it is amazing it is allowed.
