Additional Information

Embark on a journey to one of Iceland’s most captivating destinations Landmannalaugar, famous for its breathtaking landscapes such as vibrant colored rhyolite mountains, bubbling hot springs, lava fields and epic hikes.

The lava fields and the rhyolite mountains are the result of thousands of years of volcanic activity. Laugahraun lava field was formed in a volcanic eruption in 1477 consisting of vast erratic black obsidian, famed in the TV series Game of Thrones as “Dragon Glass”. Rhyolite is a type of volcanic rock that is made of quartz and silica and with minerals such as iron and sulphur adding extra color to the mountains, like Brennisteinsalda.

We will stay over 3 hours in Landmannalaugur and we offer approx. 2 hour guided hike up to Brennisteinsalda, but you are welcome to explore the area on your own within the given time frame. You can take on different trail or just relax and stay longer in the natural hot pool – just don’t forget to bring your swim suit and a towel!

  • Travel time is included on the total duration.

Very impressive experience in nature - Great trip to the highlands that is definitely worth it despite the not exactly bargain prices. Travel in a comfortable smaller bus, stops at beautiful viewpoints, lots of explanations along the way (you should be able to speak English) with the destination Landmannalaugar. Hike on site over a few meters in altitude and through stone and mud (hiking boots important) - rewarded at the end with great views of breathtaking landscapes. After the hike, a quick dip in the hot spring is possible and also advisable - take your swimwear with you, there are no changing rooms. Return journey with stops at waterfalls and in the Valley of Tears. Pick-up on time (also possible from Selfies), very nice guide Make sure you have good equipment, you have to take water and food with you. Also suitable for solo travelers, hiking is optional and therefore also for those who are not very sporty, but then you miss out on that sense of nature that impressed us so much. The way there and back were different so you got to see a lot of the landscape even on the bus. We didn't dare to go into the highlands with a rental car - if we hadn't gone, we would have regretted it very much because the nature surpasses everything that you can experience just by driving along the Ringstrasse. In September it is also relatively lonely

Do not miss this tour! - Cannot recommend this tour enough. Einar was a brilliant tour guide full of great knowledge, good spirit, and very patient. I had the best time, and the sights were unbelievable. There was plenty of time for everything, and nothing ever felt rushed or too much. It was well organised all in all by the company, although only downside was the even though I told them my location pick up, it wasn't until I got in touch the day before to confirm that they told me they had to pick me up from somewhere else. Not sure if or when they'd have let me know that, but when I did get in touch they were fast to respond, and clear in their instructions.

Highly recommend! Great sites! Great tour guide! - Our guide, Einar Samuelsson, made this an unforgettable day! He excelled through adversity (we got a flat tire on the way but had a spare!), led us on our hike, shared interesting information with us, and got us there and back safely. The sites are otherworldly--like nowhere else on this planet. I recommend the tour!

This was a long day but we got to see a lot of beautiful sights along the way - Our tour time was scheduled for 8AM but was warned to be there at least 30 minutes early because there are pickups all over the city. We were picked up at 7:45. We made several stops on our way to Landmannalaugar so we could purchase snacks and see sights along the way. We ate our sack lunch when we arrived at Landmannalaugar. There is snack food available to purchase at the site but the selection is not very appealing. Our guide gave out one map to share between 2 couples who wanted to hike on our own. It would have been nice if we could have had a map for each couple because we hiked a different paces. It would also be beneficial to hand out the map so we would have time to review it while we were eating lunch. The guide also led a shorter hike for the rest of the people in the group so they would have time to soak in the thermal baths after the hike. The guide made it very clear early on in the trip that everyone in the group had to be on time or we would not be able to see all of the sites that were advertised. He got us whipped into shape after the first few stops. We got to view all of the sites advertised and they are all very impressive. I highly recommend taking this 12 hour tour. It is well worth the money and time.

What a day!! - The driver was amazing and handled the off road portions like a champ. The scenery was stunning and worth the drive. I would’ve liked more time at each place, but it was amazing and I would go back!
