• Lake Louise - In just a few minutes, we’ll arrive at Lake Louise. Covering 222 acres and reaching depths of 230 feet, there’s plenty to explore. Long before the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived, the Stoney Nakoda fished here, calling it “Horâ Juthin Îmne,” meaning “Lake of Little Fishes.”

• Moraine Lake - We’ve reached Moraine Lake! The shuttle will drop us off in the parking area ahead. A popular activity here is hiking onto the rockpile that Wilcox climbed years ago. You’ll find the entrance to this half-mile, 15-minute hiking trail near the end of the parking lot. Just follow the loop to the top of the rocks and enjoy the views!

• Morant’s Curve - Named after Nicholas Morant, a photographer for the Canadian Pacific Railway, who captured this spot in the mid-20th century. His photos were featured in promotional materials for Banff, attracting tourists eager to see what Morant saw through his lens.

• Castle Lookout Trailhead - Approaching soon is the Castle Lookout Trail. This 5-mile hike takes 3-4 hours and is quite challenging. However, those who reach the top of Castle Mountain find the journey worthwhile! The trail offers views of the Bow River and the expansive Rockies. In fact, the end of Castle Lookout Trail is considered one of the best panoramic views in Banff National Park.

• Silverton Falls - Ahead is the trail to Silverton Falls. It’s a moderate, one-mile hike that takes about 30 minutes. The trail’s end offers an incredible view of Bow Valley on one side and a 160-foot waterfall on the other! To visit the falls, turn left into the parking lot ahead.

• Moose Meadows - Another stunning hike is coming up! This moderately challenging trail winds through Moose Meadows and up to the springs known as the Ink Pots. It takes about three hours and covers over five miles, with a 1,100-foot elevation gain that you’ll feel on this hike!

• Johnston Canyon - Next is Johnston Canyon, the park’s most popular hike. This easy one-mile trail is a must-see. The canyon is named after a prospector who never found gold but mapped the canyon during his search!

• Hillsdale Meadow Viewpoint - Approaching is Hillsdale Meadow Viewpoint, offering 360-degree views of the Rockies and a meadow full of wildflowers! You’ll see Pilot Mountain in the distance, the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks, and the Bow River. It’s an incredible vantage point. Pull into the turnout ahead if you’d like to visit, or continue straight.

• Backswamp Viewpoint - Coming up soon is Backswamp Viewpoint. Despite its unappealing name, this spot is a great place to stop! Backswamp Viewpoint offers a spectacular view of Mount Bourgeau. The Bow River runs close to the lookout point, and if you’re lucky, you might see a train along the riverbank!

• Vermilion Lakes Viewpoint - Just ahead is Vermilion Lakes Viewpoint, featuring beautiful views of three small lakes side by side. Beyond these lakes lies the town of Banff. This is a favorite spot for watching sunsets, sunrises, and wildlife! You might spot loons, buffleheads, and possibly an osprey. Visitors have reported sightings of elk, mule deer, and occasionally moose at Vermilion Lakes.
