Rasta Juan is 'The Man.' - Rasta Juan was our tour guide on the Fortuna waterfall, hike, and hot springs. He is amazing- smart, funny, a good leader, and speaks English well. Best of all, my girlfriend is a Tica, and does not speak much English- he would translate for her often so she would feel included. We were all strangers from different countries when we began the trip, but by the end, we were best friends! If you are lucky enough to have Rasta Juan as a tour guide, you will be very happy.

We had an incredible... - We had an incredible experience with **Juan Rasta** as our tour guide from **Red Lava**! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the **stunning waterfalls, learning about the rich history of Arenal Volcano, the indigenous culture, and relaxing in the natural thermal hot springs**. Juan Rasta is not only **knowledgeable and passionate** about nature and history, but he also has a **caring and charismatic personality** that made everything easy to understand and even more enjoyable. His enthusiasm and storytelling brought the experience to life, making it one of the highlights of our trip. If you're looking for a **memorable and well-guided adventure**, I **highly recommend** this tour. A perfect mix of nature, learning, and having fun.

Amazing views...Good (Great) exercise - Start the day with a refreshing plunge at bottom of the La Fortuna Falls. 480+ steps down to the pools, a short boulder scramble, and the Falls are there for your enjoyment. Now the fun part.... 480 back up. Wife and I are early 60s and made it safely back up in under 30 minutes. You will then get lunch and a refueling of the body. The afternoon gets you to the base of the volcano and another solid to moderate hike. Again, the reward is worth the effort. The day will end with a relaxing hour at the hot springs and a refreshing beverage. We had Diego as our primary guide, and his passion for the area and Costa Rican pride make every footstep worth the effort. This a very unique place and the hiking is totally worth it. Exhausting, but well worth your time.

100% recommend. Would do it again. - More like 4 in 1! We were so impressed with the variety and quality of experiences on this tour: 1. The waterfall was beautiful and the visibility was amazing. We had brought goggles and could see all the little fish. 2. I enjoyed the indigenous people’s presentation even though they were trying to sell their hand-made souvenirs. A good cause, but we didn't have room in our luggage so didn't buy any. 3. The hike to the volcano was gorgeous and we almost even saw the mountain. We did see a troop of howler monkeys go right overhead. I was worried that their idea of a “hike” would be just a nature walk, but rest assured it is actually a hike. Not overly long, but not just a nature walk. 4. The “hot springs” was actually a hotel with hotsprings (similar to other hotels in the area), not a natural formation but VERY hot, better than the ones at our hotel. There was a really fast waterslide, where my husband attempted to set a speed record. The pacing of this was amazing. There were snack and coffee breaks at just the right time, really good food, and lots of opportunities to make new friends, which in itself is one of the highlights of the trip. Our guides, Manuel and Carlos, were really knowledgeable, fun, and personable. You could tell they loved their job. I hesitate to say too much because part of the fun of this tour was how it turned out to be way better than we expected. But I DO want to make sure you take this tour. Might be my favorite tour of the whole vacation. A suggestion for the company: I left my waterproof camera, binoculars, and hiking pole at the hotel and I wished they would have listed those as optional items just to help me plan ahead. They have you leave all your dry stuff behind a few hundred feet from the waterfall (you can’t see it from there) so we missed taking pictures of the waterfall. Also the trail was steep and I like to hike with a pole for my knee. My bad for forgetting it, but it would be a nice touch to be reminded.
