- Nishiki Market Shopping District - Taste some local specialties with your tour guide and discover the history and traditions of the street known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen.” You’ll also have some free time for lunch (not included in the tour price).
- Kennin-ji Temple - Established in 1202 AD, Kenninji is considered Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple. Zen Master Eisai, credited with bringing Zen to Japan, was the founding chief priest and is interred within the temple grounds.
- Gion - As you stroll through the Gion area, you’ll see the historic buildings of Kyoto’s old entertainment district, giving you a glimpse into its past glory. We will walk leisurely through this area until we reach Kodaiji Temple, built in 1606 by Hideyoshi’s wife Nene in memory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a significant figure in Japanese history.
- Kiyomizu-dera Temple - Our final stop is Kiyomizu Temple, named after the waterfall within the complex that flows from a nearby hill. “Shimizu” means clear or pure water. This temple was founded in 778 during the late Nara period by the monk Enchin Shonin. Many of the current structures were built in 1633 by order of Tokugawa Iemitsu.
