A Fun and Educational Maiko & Geisha Tour in Kyoto - I was so excited to join this tour that let us wander through different parts of the city while learning about the history and everyday lives of geisha and maiko. One of the best parts was watching a maiko dance performance. We even got to meet maiko in person, take photos with them, and hear lots of interesting stories about what it’s like to be a geisha or maiko. The tour lasted about three hours and felt like a complete experience. Our guide, Mika-san, was amazing—she knew so much not only about geisha but also about Japanese culture and daily life. As we walked, she showed us places connected to maiko, like their schools, homes, tea houses, and even old shops that have been selling maiko and geisha accessories for centuries. It was the perfect mix of fun and learning, and I left with a whole new appreciation for Kyoto’s traditions.

Visiting flower town in kyoto - I really enjoyed the experience. The guide was very helpful and kind. Meeting the geiko san and maiko san was a one of a kind experience and they were very patient and welcoming. I absolutely recommend the experience since you can talk with the geiko and maiko as well which is rare.

Maiko Walking Tour Review - I became aware of this tour through a friend and was so excited when I discovered it. I was counting down the days until it would happen. It started out well and the tour guide walked with us for about an hour and a half throughout Gion and showed us all the important landmarks like a famous shrine and different Okiya's and Ochaya's (terms we learned through the tour guide). It was very informative and our guide was extremely knowledgable. It was hot but she made sure we were in the shade and when we paused at certain locations to have our short information sessions it wasn't too hot, so don't worry if you're worried about walking in the heat. Then we went into the tea house and took our shoes off properly as per the guide's instructions which I was grateful for. The tea house itself was extremely nice and air conditioned (something which is amazing in the summer heat), and they had water, tea, and a small candy. The retired geiko (you learn the difference between geiko, Geisha, and Maiko) explained to us different aspects of geiko culture and she shared amazing experiences when she was actively a geiko. I personally had some knowledge about geiko culture but I am happy to say I learned a lot of interesting information, which you will learn about when you take this tour! After the woman talked, the maiko walked in and preformed a beautiful dance, ours specifically was focused on a story of a young woman. I had never experienced something so special by a traditional performer and I was in awe. She was very beautiful; after the dance they did a bit more explanations, for example the difference between the garments and accessories maiko vs. geiko wear. We then had the question and answer, and the guides this whole time in the tea house were helping translate, so don't worry about a language barrier. The maiko was extremely knowledgable and had been one for many years, and was excited to answer our questions, and I learned a lot through others and my questions. Finally, we had the photo session where we took a photo with the maiko, and if you don't like your photo, people were able to retake it (they are very patient). Overall, I had an amazing time and would definitely recommend experiencing this. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially because going to a teahouse and seeing a maiko or geiko is almost always by invitation/membership. Please do this tour and maiko experience, you will not regret it.

Unique opportunity to see one of japan’s most wonderful performances - Despite the hot weather the guide (Mika-san) was able to make the walk around gion most informative and pleasant! I learnt a lot through this walk and highly enjoyed the views and atmosphere. Once we reached the tea house and performance part of the tour words cannot describe how unique and wonderful it felt to be able to witness the rare world of geiko and maiko, the host and all the staff were wonderful and i cannot overstate how great the maiko’s performance and energy were! Greatly enjoyed the experience!

Learn about Geisha history in Kyoto - It was an amazing tour! Although it was super hot to walk under the sun but I am so glad that I joined! Our guide, Ayako san, was very friendly, helpful and kind. She shared a lot of good information and I was finally able to learn about Geisha history more. I also found out about the places in town that I have never been too! The TeaHouse and the staff there were also very nice. All in all, I had a wonderful experience!!

a unique experience - The tour and the experience in the tea house was great! One thing that could be improved is the translation of the Geisha. The translation was very rigid and clunky. Nonetheless, it was overall a positive experience.

- The tour guide’s detailed explanation of the history was unforgettable. The dancing segment was a bit too short — it would be more worthwhile if it could be extended.
