Join us for an enchanting night walking tour through the Gion District’s geisha streets and discover the “real Kyoto.” Our expert guide will reveal the hidden intricacies of the exclusive world of geishas and the enigmatic Shinto shrines.
This walking tour covers several geisha districts, shrines, and the beautifully preserved historic areas of Kyoto’s Higashiyama district. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Our guide is a native English speaker, known for clear and easy-to-understand communication. With extensive knowledge, the guide is prepared to answer all your questions thoroughly.
During the break, the guide will choose a refreshing Kyoto snack. While it’s a small snack and not a full meal, every effort will be made to accommodate dietary restrictions, including vegetarian and vegan options.

AMAZING Kyoto night tour - Best tour we went on in Kyoto! I cannot recommend this tour enough. We learned so much about the geisha districts in Kyoto, the process to become a geisha, and got to explore Kyoto at night. We particularly loved visiting beautiful shrines at night and having a delicious Japanese dessert break. Richard our guide was particularly amazing; we learned so much from him and got recommendations from him for the rest of our time in Kyoto. If you like exploring cities at night, learning about history and customs, and meeting cool people this tour is for you!

Good night tour. - I recently took the Geisha district night tour and it was fascinating! The district came alive at night with its beautifully lit streets and traditional architecture. It was great for taking night pictures, and the guide provided interesting insights into the history and culture of the area. A must-visit for anyone looking to experience Kyoto's unique charm after dark. Highly recommend!

Great tour. Richard is wonderful. - Richard is a great tour guide with a straightforward and informative style. He’s clearly passionate about Kyoto history and equally as passionate about sharing his knowledge. My wife and 2 sons (16 and 14) thoroughly enjoyed our 4 hour evening tour and learned a ton. Be sure to have a decent snack prior to going because it is a lot of walking and right might be at dinner time for people. There’s a delicious snack about 80% of the way through the tour that allows you to chill and recharge. We stumbled upon a great sushi spot (called “Sushi and bar spot”) right near the end of the tour that was still open and was really fun. We highly recommend Richard and his tour around Gion.

Gion, its geisha and its district - We were lucky enough to have a private tour as we were the only ones with Richard. Richard was exceptional, sharing his knowledge, passion DE geisha and the Gion neighborhood. It takes us to more typical places and shares a ton of information. He's super generous. If you want to spend a truly magical evening in the DE Gion neighborhood, look no further!

Totally worth it! - It was so pleasing experience to explore Kyoto with Richard.
The stories of the city and it's culture and the less explored streets is the take aways from this trip.
Richard is a nice guy and we loved the stories he has to tell about Kyoto and it's history. Overall, it's a must go.

Best tour we've had in Japan! - Walking tour, learning the history and culture of the geisha arts and gion district. We saw beautiful shrines and had a delicious matcha treat also. Richard was our guide and was absolutely incredible - he helped us map out the rest of our time in Kyoto and his food recommendations were incredible

A magical day in Kyoto! - ⸻
We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day in Kyoto with Richard as our guide, and it was hands down one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Japan. Richard has lived in Kyoto his whole life, and his deep knowledge and genuine passion for the city and its history truly brought everything to life in a way we couldn’t have imagined.
Learning about the lives of geishas—especially after seeing a performance in Tokyo—was completely fascinating, and hearing the stories from someone who understands the culture so intimately made it even more impactful. I honestly want to come back in my next life as Richard!
He was also incredibly patient and kind with my teenage son, which made the experience even more relaxed and enjoyable for our whole family. Thank you, Richard, for giving us such a thoughtful, insightful, and personal look into Kyoto. We won’t forget it.
