Additional Information

The bento box is a classic element of Japanese tradition. It’s often considered the ideal meal: each partition of the box could hold an egg roll, rice, pickled veggies, breaded chicken, and even a savory miso soup. The term ‘bento’ originates from an older Japanese word that means ‘convenient’, and this compact meal solution undoubtedly fits the bill….

Fantastic family experience - Had an amazing private bento box cookery class as a family with my 14 and 11 year old sons. May, our teacher, was fantastic, very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. We all had a fantastic morning and surprised at how nice our lunch, that we made, turned out! One of the highlights of a fantastic trip and has motivated my boys to cook more.

My kids ask me to review this class - 3hrs well spent! It was calm and relaxing yet we made 4 dishes from scratch. it was really fun. My 11 and 13 year old boys really enjoyed it. They have 2 people in a family sharing equipment sometimes which is good or bad depends on the stage of the kids are in. Overall it's fantastic. And for the price you get a lot out of it.

Great experience and tasty results - We booked into a bento box cooking class with Cooking Sun in Kyoto. My culinary skills are fairly basic, so I wasn't expecting miracles. It was really well set up and organised. The instructors, great communicators who spoke fluent English, walk you through step by step on how to make each of the individual dishes that make up your bento box. The experience was so much fun and at the end you get to eat what you've made - which in my case was actually delicious. They catered for all dietary requirements and adapted the dishes accordingly. Would highly recommend if you enjoy cooking and want to learn some Japanese recipes and techniques!

Good food, fun time! - A fun way to spend 2 hours! This activity exceeded my expectations. Learned a lot about Japanese dishes, ingredients, & techniques. Instructors demonstrated some more technical tasks for us like the rolled egg, rolling the maki sushi & were there helping us every step of the way for each dish. Everything was so efficient and organized! Having a small group (9 total) allowed us to get individualized attention. Dishes are easy to make & we are excited to try them at home. Instructions & recipes printed for us to take home.
