Diani/Mombasa – Nairobi

Tsavo East - Begin your journey with an early pick-up from your hotel at approximately 4:30 AM and transfer to the Mombasa Train terminus to catch your 7:15 AM train. Relish the memorable ride through the rolling, rugged landscape that offers stunning scenic views. As you pass through Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest park, you might spot some wildlife. Arrive in Nairobi around 1:05 PM, where you’ll be picked up from the terminal and transferred to the Sarova Stanley hotel. Enjoy a hot lunch in the city and a city tour on your way to the hotel. Check-in and spend the night.

Nairobi - Meru National Park

Meru National Park, KENYA - Rise early for breakfast as the sun comes up. Your driver will transfer you to Wilson Airport for your 8:30 AM flight. Arrive in Meru around 9:25 AM and transfer to Rhino River Camp. Enjoy a game drive en route, the perfect time to explore the park’s richness and spot lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, black rhinos, zebras, gazelles, oryx, and some of the rarer antelopes like Lesser Kudu and duiker, as well as the more common Dik Dik, one of Africa’s smallest antelopes. Large prides of lions and some of Kenya’s largest buffalo herds can be seen. The rivers are teeming with hippos and crocodiles, and fishing for barbus and catfish is allowed at campsites and along the Tana River. Over 300 bird species have been recorded, including the Red-necked falcon, Heuglin’s courser, brown-backed woodpecker, sunbirds, Peter’s Finfoot, Pel’s Fishing Owl, kingfishers, rollers, bee-eaters, starlings, and weavers.

The park is renowned as the setting for Joy Adamson’s book “Born Free,” which tells the story of the Adamsons’ life and research among lions and cheetahs. The famous lioness “Elsa” is buried here. Dinner and overnight stay at Rhino River Safari Camp.

Rhino River Safari Camp (Game Drive and Other Activities)

Meru National Park, KENYA - Spend the day exploring the camp and its surroundings. After a hearty breakfast, embark on a nature walk to Gatwe “Skull” hill. Enjoy a leisurely walk through fields and small local settlements, offering a glimpse of “the real Kenya,” as one guest described it. The views from the hilltop are spectacular, providing panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside, Meru National Park, and the greater Meru conservation area.

Later, take a leisurely drive through scenic small-scale tea farms en route to Nyambene Forest and water tower. This excursion offers visitors a journey through landscapes where some of the world’s best quality tea is grown. It culminates in a visit to Nyambene Forest and water tower, including a tour of the source and waterworks of the Tuuru Water Scheme, a project by the Catholic Diocese of Meru and local communities. Dinner and overnight stay at Rhino River Safari Camp.

Meru – Nairobi – Ukunda

Nairobi National Park - After an early breakfast, depart for a morning game drive en route to the airstrip to catch your 11:25 AM flight back to Nairobi. Arrive in Nairobi around 12:40 PM and connect with another flight to Ukunda/Diani.

Meru National Park is untamed and picturesque. Occupying territory along the equator, split by 13 rivers and countless streams originating from mountains, it represents a particularly stunning region of Kenya. The park boasts varied landscapes, ranging from woodlands at an elevation of 3,400ft(1,036m) on the slopes of the Nyambeni Mountain Range, located to the northeast of Mt. Kenya, to expansive open plains crisscrossed by winding rivers lined with doum palms.
