- Vardzia - Vardzia is an ancient town carved into rock, a picturesque Georgian monument from the XII-XIII Century, located in Javakheti on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, 1300 meters above sea level. The Vardzia fortress is structured in stories, spanning 100 meters in height, with 3 to 13 levels, and includes over 600 storage rooms, dining halls, shelters, pantries, backup storages, 25 wine cellars, and a total of 185 wine-jars. The construction of the fortress was initiated by Giorgi III and completed by his daughter, Queen Tamar, who transformed its original purpose into a massive, fortified monastery. The complex was primarily built between 1156 and 1203.
