The Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple is a popular tourist attraction located in the scenic area of Gunung Rapat, south of Ipoh, the capital of Perak state in West Malaysia. The temple, set in a vast cave within limestone outcrops, has been a place of worship since 1920 and became part of an iron mining site in 1960.
The Kek Lok Tong complex features a central altar with Buddhist figures and various deities from the Chinese pantheon. Inside the caves, visitors can enjoy another beautiful garden view. The limestone hill consists of light grey to white crystalline Kinta limestone interbedded with thin argillaceous material bands. Primary iron deposits are still visible within the limestone. The award-winning landscape garden includes a jogging path around two lakes and one of Ipoh’s longest reflexology footpaths.
Entrance is FREE, but there is a donation booth for those who wish to contribute to the temple’s upkeep.
