It was the birthplace of free trade among the city’s most prominent merchants. This historic marketplace was where traders first began officially exchanging various goods. Conveniently situated on the main road to the Castle of Kruja, it is part of the museum while still serving its traditional commercial role.
• Ethnographic Museum of Kruja - The Ethnographic Museum of Kruja provides a fascinating insight into the lifestyle and customs of Albanian households over the centuries. Unique in the Balkans, the structure is inspired by Albanian and Ottoman architectural styles. Built in 1764 and converted into a museum in 1989, the three-story house-museum showcases the life of a wealthy Albanian family during Ottoman times. Visitors can explore traditional systems for self-sufficiency and learn about the organization of family spaces based on social and gender roles.
• Museumi Gjergj Kastrioti (Skenderbeu) - The National Museum “Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg” is among the most visited museums in Albania. Situated within the ancient ruins of Kruja Castle, the museum opened in 1982. Designed as a medieval Albanian castle fortress, it focuses on documenting the life and achievements of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, Albania’s national hero.
• Kruja Castle - Krujë Castle has majestically stood atop a rocky cliff, overlooking the city, for fifteen centuries. It has witnessed the region’s turbulent history, once the heart of Arbëria (Albania’s ancient name). During the Ottoman Empire’s reign over much of Europe, including Constantinople and the Balkans, this castle remained unconquered for thirty-five years, thanks to Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, the legendary Albanian hero who defended its walls until his passing.
