Bakong stands out as the inaugural temple-mountain of the Khmer Empire, setting the precedent for future edifices such as Angkor Wat. It is distinguished by its five-tiered sandstone pyramid, which symbolizes Mount Meru, complete with moats and surrounding walls, and features the earliest recorded Naga causeway in Khmer architecture. Furthermore, the temple is renowned for its well-preserved stone guardian statues of elephants and lions on the lower tiers, which are unique attributes.

Floating villages are entire communities constructed on water, encompassing homes, schools, and shops, with the entire village adapting its structure to the seasonal fluctuations in water levels. This includes two primary types of structures: those that float directly on the water and those elevated on stilts, which stand high above the ground during the dry season.
