- Kosciuszko’s Mound (Kopiec Kosciuszki) - Located in Krakow, the Kościuszko Mound is one of the city’s five mounds, built to honor Tadeusz Kościuszko, a revered patriot and leader of the national uprising.
- Monastery of the Norbertan Sisters - Resembling a fortress, this grand monastery, established in the 12th century, has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. It is closely linked to Krakow’s cherished traditions: the annual Emmaus festival is celebrated here on the Monday after Easter, and the Lajkonik procession, a key symbol of Krakow, begins here every June.
- Wawel Royal Castle - Perched on a limestone hill above the Vistula River, this former power center is steeped in legend and history, associated with Krakow’s mythical founder and his descendants. Wawel is a complex of castle and sacred buildings, symbolizing the city and serving as a museum showcasing Poland’s most treasured cultural artifacts. Look closely to spot the famous Wawel dragon, breathing fire towards spectators.
- Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology - The museum’s unique, modern architecture is best appreciated from the river. Its roof’s wavy design is inspired by the Vistula River’s waves.
- Church on the Rock (Kosciol na Skalce) - The baroque Church of Saint Michael the Archangel and Saint Stanislaus on Skałka stands above the boulevards, right by the Vistula River, on a small hill of white Jurassic limestone. The basilica serves as a national pantheon, housing the remains of many notable painters, musicians, and poets, and includes a library with invaluable documents, books, and incunabula.
- Square of Ghettos Heroes - After exploring the city’s attractions, proceed to Ghetto Heroes Square—formerly Plac Zgody, the heart of the Kraków ghetto, now a site of remembrance.
- Plaszow Concentration Camp - Established by Nazi German occupiers in October 1942 on the grounds of two Jewish cemeteries in Krakow, Plaszow Camp initially served as a forced-labor camp for Jews from the liquidated Krakow ghetto. From July 1943, it also detained Poles in a penal-labor section. In January 1944, it was reclassified as a concentration camp and later functioned as a transit camp for Hungarian Jews en route to Auschwitz. Over 35,000 people were imprisoned here, with around 6,000 murdered. Executions occurred at various sites within the camp, now marked by mass graves and memorials. On this guided tour, an expert guide reconstructs the camp from its remnants: the Grey House, the ruins of the pre-burial hall, traces of the Jewish cemeteries, the roll-call square, and paths once paved with gravestone fragments.
- Plaszow Concentration Camp - Reflect at significant memorials, including the Monument of Torn-Out Hearts, and discover how the camp was divided into living, hospital, administrative, and industrial sections. A crucial part of Plaszow’s history is Oskar Schindler. Through his enamelware business, he secured work permits for Jewish prisoners registered at Plaszow, protecting them from further deportations. Later, he arranged their transfer to his wartime factory in Brunnlitz, saving over a thousand lives. His actions, celebrated worldwide, are integral to the history shared here.
