Highlights
  • Barbican, Museum of Krakow - The gem of Krakow’s defenses, the Barbican stands as one of the finest specimens of medieval military architecture in Europe. It was never taken during a siege and became legendary when its defenders drove back enemy forces with just a single shot!
  • Slowacki Theatre - Renowned as one of Poland’s most famous and recognized stages, this theatre has been in continuous operation since 1893. The Juliusz Słowacki Theatre building is considered one of the most valuable examples of theatre architecture in Europe.
  • St Mary’s Basilica - With a history spanning over eight centuries, this church features a high altar by Veit Stoss (Wit Stwosz), a bugle call, and star-strewn murals by Jan Matejko adorning the vaulting. All this is located right in the heart of Kraków!
  • Krakow’s Rynek Glowny Central Square - This square holds many superlatives: the most important public space in Kraków, the largest Market Square of medieval Europe, and a gathering place for everything quintessentially Krakowian. It boasts the city’s most distinctive landmarks and is arguably the most beautiful, important, and charming spot in the city.
  • Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) - A symbol of the city and a gem of Renaissance architecture, the Sukiennice or Cloth Hall is Krakow’s oldest “commercial center” and one of the key elements of the city’s architectural heritage.
  • Museum of Krakow Town Hall Tower - Standing 70 meters (230 ft) tall with 110 stone steps, the Town Hall Tower features the executioner’s dungeons and has been a fixture on the Main Market Square for 700 years. It is the only remaining part of the original city authorities’ seat.
  • Jagiellonian University Museum Collegium Maius - As the oldest academic city in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe, Krakow is home to ancient university buildings near the Main Square. Touring the academic quarter, you’ll learn fascinating facts about the lives of former students in Krakow.
  • Wawel Royal Castle - Perched on a limestone hill above the Vistula River, this former center of power is steeped in legend and history, associated with Krakow’s mythical founder and his descendants. Wawel is a complex of castle and sacred buildings, symbolizing the city and housing a museum that showcases the most valuable artifacts of Polish material culture.
