- Mamula Fortress - Constructed in 1853, Mamula Fortress was established during the Austro-Hungarian rule over Montenegro. Named after the Austro-Hungarian general, Lazarus von Mamula, who ordered its construction, the fortress is strategically positioned between two other fortifications of the same era – Fort Arza, Luštica, and Cape Ostro on the opposite side. Initially chosen for its strategic location at the bay’s entrance, Mamula’s history extends beyond its military purpose. During both World Wars, it served as a prison due to its seclusion. Its notoriety peaked in World War II when Mussolini’s forces converted it into a concentration camp, with tales of its grim past still echoing today. After these events, the island and fortress were abandoned for many years. Currently, Mamula is being transformed into a tourist resort, a development that has received mixed reactions from locals due to its somber history.
- Blue Cave - The Blue Cave is the largest among numerous sea caves on the Luštica Peninsula. It earns its name from the unique way light interacts with the sandy bottom, casting a blue hue throughout the cave. This natural wonder is particularly striking given the predominantly rocky coastline. The blue glow is visible from outside, but to fully appreciate it, one must venture inside and explore underwater. Remember to bring a snorkel or goggles when visiting!
- Our Lady of the Rocks - Our Lady of the Rocks is one of two stunning islands in Kotor Bay, located across from Perast. The other is the Island of Sveti Djordje. Our Lady of the Rocks is a man-made island, reportedly created by sailors from Perast and Kotor who transported large stones on their sailing vessels. Legend has it that a Perast fisherman discovered an icon of the Holy Mother of God with Christ on a sea rock after a shipwreck near the island. In gratitude, they vowed to build a church on the island, which was completed in 1630. To maintain the island, sailors continued the tradition of bringing stones, a practice that persists today.
