- Konjic - Konjic is a town and municipality situated in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is positioned in northern Herzegovina, approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) southwest of Sarajevo. The area is mountainous and densely forested, standing at 268 meters (879 feet) above sea level. The municipality spans both sides of the Neretva River. As of 2013, the population is 26,381. This town is among the oldest permanent settlements in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a history stretching back nearly 4000 years; it became a significant town in the late 14th century. Konjička Stara Ćuprija (Stara Ćuprija = English: Old Bridge) was constructed between 1682 and 1683 by Ali-aga Hasečić, as indicated by a stone plaque at the bridge’s center. It features six slightly pointed stone arches and is the best-preserved Ottoman bridge in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The arches were destroyed by the retreating German army in March 1945, but the bridge was restored to its original state between 2003 and 2009. It is now recognized as a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The complex features the Monument on Makljen near Prozor, designed by Boško Kućanski. The Jablanica complex and the Makljen Monument were officially opened by Josip Broz Tito. Following the practice of establishing memorial museums at historic sites, the Jablanica complex was built at the location of the pivotal moment of the operation, the crucial crossing of the Neretva River, and the rescue of the wounded and sick. The Makljen Monument was erected where partisans fought decisive battles to protect the central hospital. The Makljen Monument was later transferred to Prozor Municipality. In 2009, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH declared the historic site - the memorial complex of the Battle on the Neretva in Jablanica as a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
