- Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine - Sumiyoshi Taisha (住吉大社, “Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine”) in Osaka is among Japan’s oldest shrines. Established in the 3rd century before Buddhism’s arrival, it showcases a unique shrine architecture style, Sumiyoshi-zukuri, uninfluenced by the Asian mainland. Only two other styles, Shinmei-zukuri at the Ise Shrines and Taisha-zukuri at Izumo Taisha, are considered purely Japanese.
- Shinsekai - Explore Shinsekai, the New World, featuring Tsutenkaku, Osaka’s Eiffel Tower, kushikatsu, and Billiken, the God of wealth. Shinsekai also hosts Spa World, a vast bath complex with European and Asian themed floors (enjoyed nude and gender-separated).
- Umeda Sky Building - The Umeda Sky Building (梅田スカイビル) is a remarkable skyscraper in Osaka’s Kita district, near Osaka and Umeda Stations, also known as “New Umeda City.”
Standing 173 meters tall, it comprises two towers connected by the “Floating Garden Observatory” on the 39th floor, offering stunning city views from its windows and open-air deck. The basement features a restaurant floor replicating an early Showa Period town, while offices occupy most other floors.
- Kuromon Market - Kuromon Market (黒門市場, Kuromon Ichiba) is a covered public market extending about 600 meters parallel to Sakaisujidori Street in Osaka’s Minami area. With around 150 shops selling fish, meat, produce, traditional sweets, and affordable clothing and homeware, the market, dating back to the Edo Period, provides a lively atmosphere for shopping and sampling various street foods.
- The National Museum of Art, Osaka - The National Museum of Art, Osaka (NMAO) is an underground museum with a significant art collection located on Nakanoshima island in central Osaka.
- Shitennoji - Shitennoji (四天王寺, Shitennōji) is one of Japan’s oldest temples and the first built by the state. Founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who advocated for Buddhism in Japan, the temple’s buildings have been meticulously reconstructed over the centuries to reflect the original 6th-century design.
The outer temple grounds are free to enter, while access to the inner precinct, Gokuraku-jodo Garden, and the treasure house requires a fee. Within the pebble-covered courtyard of the inner precinct stands a five-storied pagoda that visitors can enter and ascend, along with the Main Hall (Kondo) housing a statue of Kannon, enshrining Prince Shotoku.
