- Lassithi Plateau - Experience the scenic mountain routes leading to the charming Plateau of Lassithi, a breathtaking panoramic plain nestled high in the mountains of eastern Crete. The Lassithi Plateau extends 11 km (6.8 mi) east-west and 6 km (3.7 mi) north-south. It is located approximately 70 km (43 mi) east of Heraklion and sits at an average elevation of 840 m. The plateau is renowned for its white-sailed windmills, more accurately wind-pumps, designed locally and used since the early 20th century to irrigate the land.
- Kera Kardiotissa Monastery - The Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa is situated 50 km southeast of Heraklion, in a forested area of the North Dikti Range, adjacent to the road leading to the Lassithi Plateau. This historic monastery has lent its name to the nearby settlements of Kera and Ano Kera Kera. The beautiful stone-built church of the monastery is dedicated to the Nativity of Mary, celebrated on September 8. The current church was constructed in four phases, beginning as a single-aisled temple and later expanded with two rooms and a smaller chapel. Noteworthy are the ancient 14th-century frescoes, which have been somewhat damaged over time.
