A wonderful way to spend an hour in Killarney !!! - What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful afternoon in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. Conveniently starting at an entrance to Killarney National Park just a short walk from Killarney city centre, our horse carriage driver, a young member of the McCarthy family, long-term horse breeders in the area, did a wonderful job educating and entertaining us on our hour-long carriage ride. First, the ride is entirely inside the park, not on public streets as some such rides are. He pointed out deer and birds, various flowers and trees, and told us a lot of history of Killarney and the National Park. He was very accommodating taking photos of us, and posing for a few we took of him. He was gentle with his horse, “Duke”, one of two of the family’s horses named after John Wayne. On the ride he pointed out Ross Castle, the sight where a scene in the movie “Ryan’s Daughter” was filmed, Killarney House, and other highlights. He was very conversational and informative and we really enjoyed our time with him, and with Duke. We highly recommend the horse carriage ride into Killarney National Park with the McCarthy family.

Not a rainy day adventure - Nice to see the park maintains a no vehicle policy and utilizes the horse and carriages. Driver was knowledgeable but repeated the same facts over and over. Can't really see much with the face-to-face seating in the carriage. Front facing would be better. The park is OK, not mush to see. Ross Castle is unimpressive ruins.
