Take a local motorcycle ferry across the bustling Chao Phraya River. Then, cycle on elevated bike paths through local villages and plantations.
The Old Betel Nut Garden
Pause for some homemade refreshments in a family garden with stunning views of the Chao Phraya River, and take a moment to observe the ship and barge traffic on the river.
The Firefly Garden
Before human settlement, Bang Krachao was a vast mangrove forest that would illuminate at night with fireflies. Today, the local community has established a reserve where visitors can see the mangroves as they once were and where fireflies can thrive. Although fireflies are not visible during the day, visitors are welcome to return at night.
- Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok - The Ganesh Shrine
Winding away from the mangroves through villages and local Buddhist temples, stop to visit a Shrine to Ganesh, the Hindu god of beginnings and the remover of obstacles. Devotees in Thailand have created a beautiful shrine to Ganesh in Bangkrachao.

Explore the cycling utopia known as Bang Krachao in Bangkok, where extensive elevated trails meander through lush mangrove forests, quaint farms, serene villages, and sacred Buddhist temples. Rigorous zoning regulations and natural geography have shielded its mangroves, coconut groves, and gardens from engulfment by Bangkok’s city sprawl, earning it the title of Bangkok’s Secret Sanctuary.
Navigate the less-traveled paths and narrow passages to the ferry. Upon transferring you and your bike across the Chao Phraya River to the enclave of Bang Krachao, the quintessential cycling escapade unfolds.
Glide along tranquil tracks at an unhurried pace, encountering only the sounds of birds, the occasional squirrel, and perhaps a lizard or two. Dismount for a visit with a family on their historical betel nut farm for a refreshment, explore a mangrove preservation zone, and then continue to ride through the labyrinth of verdant bike trails leading to a Ganesh shrine, eventually reaching a regional temple and bazaar.
