- Besh Barmag Mountain - Located just over an hour’s drive northwest of Baku along the Guba highway, this 382-meter high mountain is known as Mt. Beshbarmag, meaning ‘Five-finger Mountain’ in Azerbaijani. According to legend, the prophet Khidr visited this site in search of a ‘potion of life’ and achieved immortality after drinking from a spring at the summit. Today, the mountain remains a place of mystery, where locals come to pray for strength and good fortune.
- Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop Mt. Lebanon - One of Azerbaijan’s most scenic roads stretches about 40 kilometers from the Guba-Baku highway westward to the mountain village of Altiaghaj. Midway, travelers pass through a striking valley bordered by rolling shale mountains with vibrant red, orange, pink, and chalk-colored swirls. British travel writer Mark Elliott, author of the popular ‘Azerbaijan’ guidebook, named them the Candy Cane Mountains, a name that has captivated travelers ever since.
- Red Village - The next stop is Guba city, nestled in one of Azerbaijan’s most stunning natural landscapes. En route to Guba, guests will visit the unique Jewish settlement in the mountains, “Caucasian Jerusalem” - the Red Town. The village boasts 13 synagogues, two of which are operational. Approximately 4-5 thousand Jews reside in Qirmizi Qesebe, symbolizing pluralism and harmony among different religions in Azerbaijan.
- Gudyalchayli - Continuing beyond the Gechresh forest, visitors will find themselves in the Gudyalchay canyons, where the road’s steep ascents and descents pass through the gorge’s towering walls. The road, flanked by two mountains, steep cliffs, and a beautiful forest, offers a charming view of this village.
- Qechresh - Qechresh is one of the largest villages in the Guba region, surrounded by forest on all sides. It is renowned for its natural springs and diverse plant life.
- Khinalug - In winter or during heavy rain, a Soviet off-road vehicle is required to reach Khinalug. Khinalig is an ancient Caucasian village dating back to the Caucasian Albanian period. Situated north of Guba, amidst the Greater Caucasus mountains, which separate Russia and the South Caucasus, it lies at an altitude of 2100-2200 meters above sea level over the Kudialchay River. Known for its unique language, customs, and traditions, Khinalig is home to about two thousand people, most of whom are indigenous. The village has preserved its language for over 4000 years.
- Guba-Khachmaz Region - The journey begins at 9 AM. The round trip to Guba Khinaluq and back to Baku will take approximately 8 hours by car.

Quba has always stood out as one of Azerbaijan’s largest and most stunning regions! If you’re planning to explore other cities in Azerbaijan, don’t miss out on Quba! This city, founded in the 15th century, lies 165km north of Baku.
One of the noteworthy destinations in Quba is the Khinaliq village, which is the most distant and highest among all the other villages in the area, nestled within the Caucasian mountains. This isolation has been a key factor in the survival of the village’s residents during invasions. Tracing its roots to the Albanian era, relics of prehistoric human caves remain preserved within the mountainous terrain. Given its extensive past, Khinaliq is among the oldest continuously inhabited regions globally and has been enlisted in UNESCO’s list of World Historical Monuments.
