Excellent orchids. Bring your own food and drink. - We came especially for the orchid festival as we have done for years. We booked tickets a month ago and joined the queue for the glasshouse at our allotted time and we waited 24 minutes to get in. There is an extensive bag search. You can't bring weapons in for example! The display was impressive, we especially liked the smaller sculptures like birds and butterflies although the large artworks are impressive. As usual we brought our own food. The short film is worthwhile.

Amazing - Kew Gardens, officially known as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is one of the most stunning and inspiring places you can visit in London. With an extensive collection of plants from around the world, this botanical garden is a true paradise for nature lovers.
Upon entering, you are greeted by an impressive variety of themed gardens, lush greenhouses, and tranquil landscapes. The Palm House, with its majestic palms and tropical atmosphere, is a must-see highlight. It's fascinating to see rare and exotic plants that you wouldn't typically find anywhere else.
The well-maintained pathways invite leisurely strolls, and each corner reveals new surprises, from serene lakes to vibrant flower areas. The variety of plants and flowers changes with the seasons, meaning each visit offers something new to discover.
In addition to its natural beauty, Kew Gardens is also an important center for botanical research and conservation. The educational exhibits are informative and engaging, making the experience even more enriching.
If you're in London, a visit to Kew Gardens is absolutely essential. It's a place where you can relax, learn, and marvel at the diversity of nature. A true oasis in the city!

Winter visit - I have been wanting to go to Kew for years so finally got the chance and I loved it! We went in January so granted a lot of the garden is asleep but there's still plenty to see and do and it wasn't very busy (bonus!) I loved the glass houses and we saw some very unusual plants some very rare. There were bananas and carnivorous plants and some tropical flowers. I loves climbing up to the top of the conservatories and seeing the jungles below. They were also a nice warm break form the cold outdoors! The grounds outside were atmospheric in the winter the Japanese garden and pagoda were lovely and we saw the London parakeets on the treetop walk. The hive sculpture was fun. The food at the cafe and the grill were both excellent, healthy seasonal choices and delicious. We didn't manage to see it all in one day so will definitely return and experience it in another season.

Orchid festival - Had pre booked for the orchid festival and worked out travel time to drive. Had researched where to park and was lucky enough to find a space on a road near the first entrance to the garden.
It was a wet miserable day and this may have been the reason we were met by a miserable member of staff who then moaned that we would be late for our 12 slot. Not sure they realised we could hear every word, may be we were ment to. In fact we stood in a queue in for 10 mins along with everyone else with the same time slot. I must say everyone else was very pleasant and friendly. guess we all have bad days. I have been coming to Kew for 47 years and love the gardens, which are well tendered.
The glass houses are one of my favourite buildings and a space I thoroughly enjoy. The orchid festival is busy but worth the wait. Beautiful plants to enjoy and some fun displays. Will be back in the summer to see more of the garden and glass houses.
The blue exhibition was worth a visit and great space to help dry out. The cafe was very busy so we went to the Botanical Brasserie which is pricy for a snack but well worth it. We had a started and side and was not judge for our choice or cost cutting planning. Warm, bright with friendly staff.

Wonderful light display at Christmas - This is the first time we have been to Kew Gardens and we really enjoyed the light display. It was busy but you had plenty of time and space to walk around and to see all the displays. It’s wonderful for children, the display at the end over the lake is very good and magical to watch. There were plenty of stalls serving food on the way round the gardens. There was a fun fair, Father Christmas was there as well!
You need to go when it is dark to get the best from the light displays. Lots of the displays were done to music, Christmas carols and music, which made it feel very Christmasy.
I thought it was good value for money, the tickets were about £34 each. There is a shop there where you can buy kits of things. I may try to just go back to see the plants and flowers they look after in there.
Great Christmas activity

Too expensive. Uninspired. - Obviously February’s not a great time to visit a garden. But most places like Westonbirt , Highgrove etc make the grounds interesting throughout the year.
Bulbs , evergreens etc .
Kew outside looked pretty desolate .
My other thought was, why is the info. on conservation work presented in such a bland boring way . A glass cabinet containing a faded photo and teaspoon with a dish of seeds was typical of the presentations throughout the glasshouses.
Shop & cafe were good though! So was the Palm House.
Pre booked ticket for Cyclamen house for 2.00pm but the queue outside in the drizzle was long . Should be able to enter at time booked .
£24.50 is too much for this experience.

Orchid Display 2025 - I found this year’s orchid display underwhelming. I took a friend for a special visit as last year’s display had been spectacular. We were sadly disappointed. There didn’t seem to be as many orchids or variety.

Spoilt by staff jobsworths - Visited as part of a community charity group. Kew staff officious, unhelpful and left 11 or 12 of us waiting unnecessarily in the cold before letting us in. This was despite the fact that we had booked well in advance. Given the timed entry system this led to our tour being more crowded than it should have been.
After our visit we used the cafe which was overcrowded due to there being insufficient tables.
Shame as Kew Gardens are lovely but they need to get their act together.
We were thinking of joining but I think that’s unlikely now…

Christmas at Kew 2024 - Disappointing - I've been to christmas at kew 5 times now - every year is unique, creative and different.
This year was extremely underwhelming, felt like the budget had dropped it half.
It was very amateurish in comparison to all the years that we loved.
Very disappointing. a real shame.
