Mzima Springs - Mzima Springs is a lush oasis within Tsavo West National Park, producing an astounding 250 million liters of fresh water daily. The springs, originating from the Chyulu Hills, supply the majority of Mombasa’s fresh water. A walking trail follows the shoreline, offering views of the springs’ stable hippo population, which numbers around 20 individuals, as well as crocodiles and a wide variety of birds.

Tsavo West shares its northeast boundary line with Tsavo East National Park, and together these two parks form one of the world’s largest national parks. The terrain within Tsavo West National Park is quite varied and includes acacia woodlands, expansive savannah grasslands, scrublands, rocky ridges, volcanic remnants and riverine ecosystems. Prominent natural landmarks include Mzima Springs in the central region of the park including the Shetani lava flow on the western precinct and Lake Jipe and Chala in the southwestern corners. The nutrient-rich soil supports more than 1,000 plant species that provide wildlife and avi-fauna with food, shelter and nesting sites.
