DAY FOUR: Austrian Hut (4790m) – Lenana Peak (4895m) – Old Moses – Nairobi
Mount Kenya - Start early at 0430hrs and walk up the rope-lined steep path to the summit. The scree is loose here, so caution is advised. It is a beautiful experience to see the crack of dawn and the sunrise from the eastern side of the Chogoria route. The last section to the summit includes a Via Ferrata – the highest in the world. A Via Ferrata is a protected and typically safe climbing route with ropes to assist new climbers. Upon arriving at the summit, take photos and enjoy the view briefly before starting back down. After enjoying the summit, descend west via the Sirimon route for breakfast at Shipton’s Camp.
Walk down 14km to Old Moses Camp, arriving later in the afternoon. After a short ceremony to bid farewell to the team, depart for Nairobi, arriving late in the evening.

The Chogoria route is our recommended and arguably the most magnificent ascent route to the summit of Mount Kenya. The physical landscape on this route is its biggest attraction. Whereas the other routes above generally follow a U-Shaped glacial valley for much of the way, the Chogoria traverses around the head of the spectacular ‘Temple’ with the Hall Tarns perched on the rock ledge above it and Lake Michaelson in the base of the Amphitheatre. The additional features of Lake Ellis, the Giant’s Billiard Table and the Nithi Falls further add to its interest. The descent by the Sirimon route takes one through some beautiful forest tracks and completes the traverse of the mountain.
