Jeep Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
Rasuwa - On this day, the journey to Syabrubesi begins, serving as the gateway to the Langtang trek. The route passes through Langtang National Park, offering views of charming Tamang villages, terrace farming, and small stupas/chhortens. Transitioning from the bustling city to a tranquil village provides a unique experience. Be prepared for a bumpy ride as some road sections are under construction.
Hotel Garden Inn Shyfru Bensi - The jeep ride from Machhakhola bus park to Syabrubesi takes travelers through the picturesque hilly region of Rasuwa district. The landscape is adorned with lush green paddy fields and terraced fields growing various crops like rice, wheat, potatoes, and corn. Traditional Nepalese villages built from rock and mud, along with domestic animals such as cows, goats, chickens, and ducks, are common sights in rural areas. Upon reaching the hotel in Syabrubesi, guests can relax and enjoy an authentic Nepalese dinner.
Hike from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
Langtang National Park - On Day 2, the actual trek begins in the stunning Langtang National Park. The trek involves a 6-7 hour walk to reach Lama Hotel, where a teahouse stay awaits for the night.
Lama Hotel - The trek leads through lush green forests filled with alder, pine, oak, and bamboo trees alongside the pristine Langtang River. The area is home to a variety of birds, including fantails, sunbirds, nightingales, swifts, and pheasants. Crossing long suspension bridges over deep hills offers a unique experience.
Trek to Mundu
Langtang Valley - The trail ascends through the forest, occasionally revealing views of Mount Langtang Lirung in the distance. At Ghoda Tabela (3,000m / 9,842ft), the trail emerges from the forest, with mountains flanking the valley. The trail continues to climb gently as the valley widens, passing temporary settlements used by herders in the summer. Travelers may spot their first yak here. The trail also serves as a poignant reminder of the 2015 earthquake, with Langtang village now a vast rock field. Reflect on the lives lost and know that your visit supports survivors. Mundu is just a half-hour walk further, with old houses reminiscent of the valley’s past.
Trek to Kyanjin Gumpa
Kyanjin Gompa - From Mundu, the trail gradually ascends through yak pastures as the valley opens up, offering expansive views. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches Kyangjin Gumpa, home to a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory, perfect for lunch and snacks. Arriving by lunchtime allows for a relaxing afternoon or exploration. For those feeling energetic, a hike up the valley towards Langshisha Kharka offers stunning views.
Kyanjin Gompa - Explore the beautiful Kyanjin Gompa village, visiting attractions like the local Yak cheese factory, a Buddhist monastery, and taking an acclimatization hike to lower Kyanjin Ri.
Exploration Day at Kyanjin Ri and Rest Day
Kyanjin Ri - Embark on a 2-hour early morning hike for a sunrise view over the Langtang range. The walk ascends slowly over 4,400m elevation along steep ridges. Despite the challenging uphill trek, the view from upper Kyanjin Ri is rewarding, offering a magnificent panoramic view of Langtang Lirung and other mountains on the Tibetan side. Glaciers are visible up close, and lucky hikers might witness small glacier avalanches. While descending, there may be encounters with wildlife such as mountain goats (blue sheep and Himalayan Thar) and herds of yaks.
Trek Back to Lama Hotel from Kyanjin Gompa
Lama Hotel - Retrace the route back down the valley, following the Langtang River to Mundu village and on to Ghora Tabela. The descent is quicker than the ascent. After lunch, continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel for an overnight stay. With luck, wild animals like red pandas, barking deer, musk deer, and langur monkeys may be spotted along the forest trails.
Trek to Syabrubesi
Syabrubesi Hot Spring - Continue retracing steps to Syabrubesi, enjoying the serene forested hills and riverside views. A visit to the hot spring in Syabrubesi is planned.
Return to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi
Kathmandu - On the final day of the trek, a private jeep will transport travelers from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu, following the same highway as at the trek’s start. A celebratory dinner in Thamel marks the successful completion of the Langtang trek.
