Royal Palace—Great History - A beautiful palace with a long history and the tragic massacre of the royal family about 20 years ago. Each room is nicely decorated and has good signage to help understand the whole palace. There is also a "back lot' to the palace contains many old cars owned by the royal family. A very nice place to visit...royalty, quiet areas, great history. Be aware that cameras are not allowed and your sling pack or purse has to be left at the front gate (in a locker) and each person must go through a security check upon entering. This is not a handicap accessible site as it has many stairs and no wheelchair ramps. Foreigners pay the usual "site fee" of 1,000 NPR (about $7.00 USD) and is worth the price. It would have been nice to have a brochure of the palace and even a place to buy postcards or small photo cards. it is worth walking across the street from the palace to the mall and going to the coffee shop to take some good photos looking down into the palace.
