From Seoul to the Himalayas: My Unforgettable Annapurna Circuit Trek
After leaving my finance job in Seoul, I embarked on the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal, drawn by its breathtaking landscapes and cultural richness. With the guidance of Arbind, an exceptional guide, I experienced a journey of discovery and connection that left me with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the world.
Setting Out on the Annapurna Circuit
After leaving my finance job in Seoul to explore Southeast Asia, I found myself drawn to the allure of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and cultural richness, this trek promised an adventure that I couldn’t resist. I arrived in Kathmandu, where the bustling streets and vibrant energy set the stage for the journey ahead.
The first day was all about settling in and meeting fellow trekkers. I was introduced to Arbind, our guide, whose reputation preceded him. His warm demeanor and extensive knowledge of the region immediately put me at ease. As someone who often travels solo, I appreciated the sense of camaraderie that quickly developed within our group.
The Trek Begins
Our journey began with a drive to Besisahar, a small town that serves as the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit. The eight-hour drive was a mix of anticipation and excitement, with glimpses of snow-capped mountains teasing us from a distance. Once in Besisahar, we switched to a local jeep for the rugged ride to Chame. The road was challenging, but the stunning scenery of pine forests and mountain vistas made every bump worthwhile.
As we trekked from Chame to Pisang, the landscape transformed into a breathtaking alpine wonderland. Arbind’s insights into the local culture and geography enriched our experience, making each step more meaningful. His attentiveness to our well-being was evident as he regularly checked on our health and adjusted the pace to ensure we were acclimatizing properly.
Reaching New Heights
The trek from Pisang to Manang was a highlight, with panoramic views of Annapurna II and III, Gangapurna, and Pisang Peak. The ancient Braga monastery, with its Buddhist relics and frescoes, offered a glimpse into the spiritual heart of the region. Our rest day in Manang was a welcome break, allowing us to explore the village and hike to the stunning Gangapurna Lake.
As we ascended to Yak Kharka and then to Thorang High Camp, the altitude became more challenging. Arbind’s expertise was invaluable, guiding us safely through the high-altitude terrain. Crossing the Thorang-La Pass at 5,416 meters was a triumphant moment, marked by prayer flags fluttering in the wind and a sense of accomplishment that words can’t capture.
The descent to Muktinath was a journey through diverse landscapes, from arid highlands to lush valleys. Muktinath, a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists, was a fitting end to our trek, offering a moment of reflection and gratitude for the incredible journey we had undertaken.
Reflecting on the Journey
The Annapurna Circuit Trek was more than just a physical challenge; it was a journey of discovery and connection. Arbind’s guidance and the friendships formed along the way made it an unforgettable experience. As I returned to Kathmandu, I felt a deep sense of fulfillment and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the world.
For those considering this trek, I can’t recommend it enough. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a first-timer, the Annapurna Circuit offers something for everyone. And if you’re lucky enough to have a guide like Arbind, you’re in for an exceptional adventure. Annapurna Circuit Trek
