Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. The picturesque trail dips to Devuche, crosses the Imja River, and leads to Pangboche. The upper Pangboche trails offer pristine views of the Himalayas and the Pangboche Monastery. The trek continues to the Imja Valley, Lobuche River, and climbs to Dingboche. In Dingboche, see fields enclosed by stone walls to protect barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from cold winds and grazing animals.
Dingboche: Acclimatization
Dingboche to Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft): 7km, 5-6 hours
Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,170 m/16,961ft), Visit Everest Base Camp (5,364 m/17,594 ft): 13km, 6-7 hours
Mount Everest - Follow the trail to Everest Base Camp through the former Gorak Shep Lake. Continue straight to the Indian army mountaineers’ memorials. The path can be misleading, so follow your lead Sherpa closely. The walk is challenging due to thin air at high altitude. Pass rocky dunes, moraine, and streams before reaching Everest Base Camp. At the base camp, see mountaineers’ tents in bright colors against the gray surroundings (especially in spring). View Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori from the base camp. Return to Gorak Shep for a restful night.
Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,192ft) to Pheriche (4,288m/14,070ft): 16km, 7-8 hours
Kala Pattar - Prepare for an early morning departure in pre-dawn darkness and cold temperatures (-10 to -14 C), with potential chilly winds. Familiar peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse tower to the east as Everest reveals itself. At Kala Patthar, enjoy 360-degree close-up views of Mt. Everest. Take photos, enjoy the mountain panorama, and return to Pheriche for a restful night.
Participants visiting Everest Base Camp today will have an early breakfast to start early, as the base camp hike takes longer than the Kala Patthar hike. After returning to Gorak Shep, both groups will have lunch together; the afternoon is spent descending to Pheriche for a restful night.
Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,280 ft): 20km, 6 - 7 hours
Pheriche - Trek down through hillsides covered with rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the prayer-flag festooned bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi gorge, descending rapidly through pine forests. In the forest, you may encounter colorful pheasants and mountain goats. The path eventually reaches Sansa, where you can enjoy views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Nuptse mountains. Pass winding trails through a forest before reaching Namche Bazaar.
Namche Bazaar to Phakding (3,438m/11,280 ft): 11km, 5 - 6 hours
Phakding - Capture a mix of open plains and pine forests with snow-covered peaks in the distance. Walk through Sherpa villages, observing the impressive faith in Buddhism and the culture of prayer stones and prayer flags as you pass through the villages (5-6 hours).
Phakding to Lukla (2,860m/9,186ft): 8 km, 3 - 4 hours trek
Lukla Airport Viewpoint - The trail descends steeply, so walk cautiously as your legs navigate the rocky terrain. After crossing suspension bridges over the fast-flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, the trail becomes more level and natural. Upon arrival in Lukla, stretch your legs and reflect on the experiences of the past weeks.
Fly to Kathmandu
Thamel - Catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after your mountain journey. Upon reaching Kathmandu, rest or shop for souvenirs. If you wish to explore other areas of Kathmandu, you can do so today. Your guides can assist with souvenir shopping.
