The panoramic views of snow-capped mountain peaks below are truly exhilarating, marking the start of unforgettable adventures that linger in your memory. Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our dedicated support team will warmly welcome you at the arrivals and accompany you to your hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Flight to Lukla - Trek to Phakding [2,656m]
Phakding - A scenic thirty-minute flight from Kathmandu takes us to Lukla, a cliffside airport in Khumbu, where the trek in the Everest Region begins. After meeting the crew, we proceed up the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well-marked trail and spend the night in Phakding. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Trek to Namche [3,450m]
Namche Bazaar - From Phakding, we cross and re-cross the river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo lies the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park, established to protect and preserve the delicate mountain environment. We then embark on a steep hike to Namche. If the weather is clear, we catch our first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is the main trading village in Khumbu and hosts a bustling Saturday market - a gathering place for locals, lowland traders, and Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Free Day in Namche
Namche Bazaar - Nestled between two ridges amidst the towering peaks of Khumbu, Namche is a unique mountain outpost with a magnificent atmosphere catering to every traveler’s needs. With an abundance of lodges, tea shops, and souvenir shops, yet retaining the charm of a typical Himalayan beauty, this town is a wonderful place to spend a rest day, acclimatizing to the new altitude before heading towards Thame.
Trek to Thame (3739m)
Khumjung - From Namche, the route turns west, and the trail is almost level as we head up the Bhote Koshi Valley, once a popular trading route into Tibet. Along the way, we pass many prayer flags and mani stones, all indicative of the Tibetan Buddhist culture of this area. After descending to the Bhote Koshi, the trail climbs steeply to Thame. Here, we enjoy splendid views of the peaks of Teng Kangpoche and Kwangde. To the north is the Nangpa La, the pass leading to Tibet. Thame Gompa is situated above the village overlooking the valley and is the site for the spring celebrations of the Mani Rimdu festival.
Trek to Khumjung (3786m) via Hillary Hospital in Kunde
Khumjung - We retrace our route down the Bhote Kosi Valley towards Namche and branch off to follow a quiet trail to Khumjung. It is a picturesque village with its own gompa at the top end of town. On the way, we visit Khunde hospital, established by Sir Edmund Hillary. From our camping spot, we have excellent views of Thamserku, Kantega, and Ama Dablam.
Trek to Dole (4040m) via Mong La
Khumjung - Shortly after leaving Khumjung, the trail climbs to a large Chorten on top of a ridge. This ridge descends from Khumbila, a 5734m peak, said to be the abode of the patron God of the Khumbu region. The trail descends towards the Dudh Koshi river, where we stop for lunch near the bridge leading to the village of Phortse. We then pass through Phortse Tenga, and from there, the trail climbs steeply to Dole, through rhododendron and birch forests adorned with hanging mosses and lichens.
Trek to Machermo (4410m)
Machhermo - From Dole, we climb steadily along the side of the valley. As the altitude increases, the rhododendron forests give way to scrub juniper. The trail passes through many summer settlements [yersa], used when yaks are taken to these pastures to graze in summer. Ahead of us are excellent views of Cho Oyu, and looking back down the valley, we are greeted by views of Kantega and Thamserku. This is a short trek, and we will arrive at Machermo in time for lunch.
Trek to Gokyo (4750m)
Excursion to Gokyo Ri (5340m)
Gokyo Ri - Gokyo Ri rises above the village on the northern edge of the lake. We leave camp just after first light, following a steep path up the hillside. As we climb, the summits of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu gradually come into view, and the sight from the summit of Gokyo Ri itself is one of the finest in the Everest region - some say it surpasses that from Kala Patthar. After lunch, it is a short walk to the village of Na, situated at the foot of the Ngozumpa Glacier.
Trek to Thagnak (4700m)/Alternative Phortse
Trek to Dzongla (5330m) via Cho La
Trek to Lobuche (4910m)
Lobuche - After passing the teahouses of Duglha, we climb higher onto the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier, passing a row of stone monuments built in memory of Sherpas who have died on mountaineering expeditions to Mt Everest. From here, the trail descends and follows the west side of the valley to Lobuche. The sunset on Nuptse from here is quite spectacular.
Trek to Kala Pattar (5545m)
Kala Patthar - An early start is essential to reach Gorak Shep. The trail offers superb views of the surrounding mountains, especially where the path rises to cross a tributary glacier. We stop for lunch at Gorak Shep. Later in the afternoon, we make our way to the top of one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region, Kala Patthar [5554m], following the Khumbu Glacier. After Kala Patthar, we trek back to Gorakshep.
Trek to Everest Base Camp (5380m)
Everest Base Camp Trail - In the morning, we embark on an excursion trek to the Everest Base Camp. It takes several hours as the trail weaves through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. On the return leg, we can take a higher route to enjoy a spectacular view of the Khumbu icefall and the route to the South Col. We then trek back to Pheriche.
Trek to Tengboche (3867m)
Tyangboche - We head downhill towards Tengboche and, after crossing the bridge over the Dudh Koshi river, continue trekking to reach Kyanjuma, the junction of the trinity ways to Gokyo Valley, Khumjung village, and Namche Bazaar. Enjoy stunning views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tawache, and Lhotse, as well as diverse wildlife, including pheasants, beautiful griffons, musk deer, and wild goats in the rhododendron forest. In the evening, explore the surrounding area with its magnificent scenery.
Trek to Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar - We trek down through the hillside covered with rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the prayer-flag adorned bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, our trail follows the Dudh Koshi gorge, descending rapidly through pine forests. In the forest, we may encounter colorful pheasants and mountain goats. The path eventually reaches Sansa, where we can enjoy views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Nuptse mountains. We also pass winding trails through a forest before reaching Namche Bazaar.
Trek to Lukla (2800m)
Lukla - Our final day’s trekking follows the Dudh Koshi back down to Lukla. This last evening in the mountains is a perfect opportunity for a farewell party with the Sherpa guides and porters, where we can sample some chang (local beer - a favorite drink in the mountains), enjoy Sherpa dancing, and reflect on a memorable trekking experience.
Fly to Kathmandu
Kathmandu - We pack up early and head to the airstrip for a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is free for personal activities.

The Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Ri Trek is a remarkable journey that takes us through the lofty valleys of Khumbu. We begin by flying from Kathmandu to Lukla and then journey up the Dudh Koshi valley until we reach the Sherpa heartland of Namche. From there, we take the tranquil path to the Thame village situated in the Bhote Koshi valley. As we descend back to Khumjung, we come across stunning views of Kantega, Thamserku and the Nuptse-Lhotse structure with the imposing Everest above. In Khumjung, we sit in the shadow of Khumbila Peak, the dwelling place of the protector deity of the Khumbu region, before advancing up the Dudh Koshi valley to the azure lakes of Gokyo. From Gokyo, we make our way up to Gokyo Ri to witness a breath-taking 360-degree view of the snow-draped mountains in the Everest region.
From Gokyo, our next stops are Thagnak and then Cho La pass, which provides one of the most challenging days of the trek involving a steep traverse across a glacier and vertical icy rock surfaces. After reaching Dzongla, we take the lower path along the valley to meet the main trail leading to Everest Base Camp.
